Throwbacks Week: Cult Nails Captivated

I wish Cult Nails was still around. I think they had some of the most high-quality formulas and colors with their polishes before the indie market became oversaturated. One of my favorite polishes from theirs was Captivated. I loved it so much I got two bottles.

Captivated
Captivated is a coral jelly with golden iridescent glitter.

Collection: Cult Nails A Day At The Races 2011

Color: I love this color combination. This is definitely reminiscent of  those early 90's jelly shoes. I adore the golden iridescent glitter mixed in there against that bright coral.

Formula: This formula is a bit on the thick sign. I do remember it being this way when I originally had it, so it's not from age. I used 3 coats on this and I think adding a bit of thinner could be beneficial to keep it from getting too thick on the nail when building coats.

Price: N/A. This has been discontinued as the brand is no longer in business. You might be able to spot this in a destash sale though.

Overall: I have so much love for this polish. I love the brightness of the coral and I'm practically drooling over the iridescent glitter. This is a polish that has withstood the test of time as far as appeal goes. This is probably the only time in the history of Imperfectly Painted I'll do this but despite its thick formula it's definitely worth 5 golden paint splatters.

Cult Nails Sublime

I'm sure most all of us are aware of the sad Cult Nails news. Cult Nails is liquidating. I'm very sad to hear about this. Cult Nails always made such high quality products, and I don't think I owned a bad one in the bunch. Maria, the owner, was a personal local friend of mine, and she really put herself fully into the brand. I have so much respect for her as a business owner. I will miss her polishes, but I understand her reasoning. All Cult Nails polishes are 60% off now.

I do have a more recent released color to show you today. This one is still available for purchase at the discounted price.

Sublime
Sublime is a bright orange based red creme.

Color: This is the brightest red creme I own. This does lean toward the orange side a touch, but most definitely reads red. I love the vibrancy and creaminess of this color.

Formula: This was an excellent 2 coat easy use formula.

Price: This is now 60% off $12.00 on the Cult Nails site.

Overall: This is a bright and beautiful shade of red. Red can get boring in nail polish, but this one definitely stands out as different. The formula is a great and the price is great now too. You must get it before it's gone forever though!

Happy Christmas Mani!

Happy Christmas to all who celebrate! Typically, today would be throwback Thursday, but it will be Christmas mani Thursday instead. This will be a super short post.  Here is what I chose to do on my nails this year.

Polishes Used: China Glaze Emerald Sparkle, Cult Nails Tempest, China Glaze Party Hearty, and Lacquistry Amazeballz.

I hope you all have a happy holiday!

Cult Nails Inescapable

We have all experienced those nail polishes that wow in the bottle, but underwhelm on the nail. I had the exact opposite experience with this next Cult Nails color though. I bought Inescapable as set with the other 2 colors Subline and Wanna Be in the collection.. This was the color while it looked nice, didn't wow me. I've always been underwhelmed with glitters like this because I don't find they really pop on the nail. In this case, I was very wrong!

Inescapable
Inescapable is a black/brown jelly base with copper and pink glitters.

Color: This is described as a brown jelly by Cult Nails. This really looks more like a soft black to me with the tiniest hint of brown, The only time it looks really brown to me is on the first coat. That out of the way, this is stunning! The base doesn't drown the glitter which I was afraid of. The glitter really pops and this polish really sparkles! I love the use of pink/copper glitter with this base, because typically we see colors like this paired with silver glitter.

Formula: Excellent formula. This is a jam-packed glitter polish, but the formula is smooth and so easy to apply. This isn't chunky in the slightest. I used 3 coats above.

Price: This is $12.00 on the Cult Nails website.

Overall: What an amazing surprise I had with this polish. I admit, I doubted it at first, but now I absolutely adore it. This became and instant favorite for me, and I didn't take it off after I swatched it. I love Inescapable. This is hands down a must have, and a winning polish!

Cult Nails Wanna Be

Do you ever buy a nail polish because the color reminds you of a good memory? That's exactly why I needed this Cult Nails polish.

My mom has never even worn the smallest amount of makeup since I've been alive. She never owned makeup. She's not a makeup person in the least bit. However, I remember when I was younger she had this one Revlon nail polish in the bathroom closet. Whenever we'd go out to nice dinners or something like that my mom would paint her nails and mine this Revlon color.

I cannot tell you for the life of me what the color was called. This was the early 90's and I would of recognized it if it were still around. My mom definitely no longer has it either. The first time I saw Cult Nails Wanna Be, my first that was "That's the color!". I had to have it.

Wanna Be
Wanna Be is a medium coppery pink base with intense copper and gold shimmer.

Color: This color is really hard to describe. The base is a kind of a mix of a red, copper, and pink. The color is very richly pigmented and it's infused with this amazing shimmer. I love this color. It's so unusual in comparison to other polishes out there now. This is a great color for fall, and I'd consider it a neutral. This color would go with plenty of colors you'd wear.

Formula: Excellent 2 coat formula.

Price: I do believe this will be available individually for purchase at some point? Currently it's available for $24 in the collection set with 2 other polishes.

Overall: This is a winner polish to me. This is exactly like the color my mom had back in the early 90's. It brings back a lot of memories for me, but it's also really a great color now. It's unique, it works for the season, and it can work with anything.

Throwback Thursday: Cult Nails My Kind of Cool Aid

A major nail trend a few years back were the "greige" (gray-beige), taupes, and "gravender" (gray-lavender) shades. These are an excellent and chic play on neutral tones. They're far more interesting than your traditional nude or sheer pink shades, but provide the same put-together classic look. Ever since this trend, these types of colors have become and remained mainstream.

My problem is these types of shades are incredibly tricky on my skin tone. I have a lot of pink and red tones in my skin, and those taupe and beige colors make my hands look very ruddy and dirty. I have always struggled to pull of these colors, and there are very few I have found that play nicely with me, much less look good on me.

There really is only one color in this color family I've found that works for me, and looks awesome. That color is Cult Nails' My Kind of Cool Aid. If I'm craving a sophisticated and trendy neutral, I won't reach for any other color than this one.

My Kind of Cool Aid
My Kind of Cool Aid is a muted grayed out lavender with a subtle shimmer.

Collection: Inaugural Collection Spring 2011. This was the very first Cult Nails nail polish released.

Color: What saves this color for me is that it leans toward the purple side. This is still very much a neutral color, and doesn't read as purple on your nails. The shimmer is an added beautiful touch. This is the kind of color, when you look at your nails, give you a boost of confidence. I look at my nails and think "I'm a classy lady!". I know I'm a strange one sometimes.

Formula: Excellent, smooth, and easy to apply to coat formula.

Price: This is $12 on the Cult Nails website. BUT! If you want this, order this TODAY! All regularly priced lacquers are 40% off through today using the code THEBIG40.

Overall: Perfect neutral nail polish. Excellent color, and excellent formula. If you're someone like me who struggles with these types of shades on your skin tone, give this one a try. I highly recommend My Kind of Cool Aid.

Pastel Bright Skittle Birthday Nails

Today is my birthday, and what is a birthday without a birthday mani?

This is probably the first birthday I didn't go all out and do some gigantic glitter bomb manicure. I kept it simple this year, but fun and bright! I'm happy with it.

Polishes Used: Maybelline Ultra Violet, Coral Heat, and Cult Nails New Day

I can't get enough of these pastel bright colors. I love them so much!

Happy Saturday!

Cult Nails Falling Hard

*I received the following product by Cult Nails in exchange for my honest review.

I love a great pink polish, but sometimes I find pinks are hard for me to pull off. I think it's because I have a lot of pinky-red in my skin, when I wear pinks it can make my skin look ruddy. I say this especially with lighter pinks. I'm always on the hunt for a nice lighter pink, that doesn't clash with my skin tone. Cult Nails most recent addition seems to be a nice fit!

Falling Hard
Falling Hard is a soft bubblegum pink creme.

Color: I like pinks like this because they cover a neglected area of the pink spectrum in nail polish. I see lots of hot pinks, bright pinks, pale pinks, and sheer pinks, but in-between pinks seem to get left out. I love the saturation of this color, and based on photos I've seen from other bloggers it seems to play nicely with a variety of skin tones.

Formula: Excellent easy to apply formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This is $12.00 on the Cult Nails website.

Overall: All around great pink. The color is nice and saturated. The formula is excellent. No complaints.

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters
*Note-Starting today I'll be adding to my labels my rating, this way you'll be able to search all of my swatches by the rating is received.

Cult Nails Wack Slacks

Where did the bold blue go? 2011-2013 were all about the bold blues, now I haven't seen a bold blue in a collection in 2014. I guess they assume the bold blue has been covered. A bold blue at least to me never goes out of style. I have a Cult Nails bold blue to share with you today.

Wack Slacks
Wack Slacks is a saturated violet-leaning blue creme.

Color: What I like about Wack Slacks is while it is a bold blue, it doesn't copy the others. This leans slightly the purple side and is touch muted. I don't have a blue quite like this in my stash.

Formula: Excellent formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This is $12.00 on the Cult Nails website.

Overall: Great bold blue with it's own unique touch. The color is saturated, the formula and the formula is great. The name is pretty awesome too!

My Rating 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Way-Cool Mani Wednesday: Cult Nails Fall Funk

Ever since I started doing two accent nails,  I haven't gone back to just doing one. This is probably my favorite nail trend ever as it allows me to be more creative and fun with my nails. This is a recent mani I did using some Cult Nails polishes. I think it's fun, but still fall appropriate.

Polishes Used:
Cult Nails Let Me Fly, Spontaneous, and Walk of Shame.

Manicure Description:
I painted my index, middle, and pink finger with Let Me Fly. I followed up on my middle finger using the Saran Wrap technique using Spontaneous. I painted my ring finger with Spontaneous topped off with Walk of Shame.

Cult Nails Lamestain

If I haven't seen swatches of nail polish, I definitely buy from what I see in the bottle. If what is in the bottle looks amazing, then there is a good chance (not always) that it's going to look good on the nail. I will admit, Cult Nails Lamestain was not a color that struck me in the bottle. Lamestain color is blackened creme and part of the All Access collection. I bought this as a set, and this color out of all rest I figured would probably not wow me. I was very very wrong. Lamestain on the nail is totally different story!

Lamestain
Lamestain is a deep ox blood creme.

Color: This color is dark, but it doesn't translate as straight up black on the nail. I can see the red tones in this polish. Lamestain is just one of those chic, elegant, and sexy on trend colors that everyone needs. I couldn't stop oogling over my own nails when I wore this. I'm from a cool and fashion forward, but I felt like was pretty darn cool wearing this!

Formula: Excellent. I used two coats above. This formula is super shiny and glossy too, that's what I believe makes this color.

Price: $12.00 on the Cult Nails website. This is pricey compared to most of my polish, but well worth it.

Overall: This is not a typical color for me, but I am in love. It's colors like this that make me fall in love with nail polish again. The color is rich and dark, but is nice variation from your standard black. The formula is on point and glossy. Great all around polish. I say every girl needs this! Must have.

Way-Cool Mani Wednesday: Queen of Hearts

One of my favorite stories of all time is Alice in Wonderland. Actually to be more specific, I prefer the sequel ,Through the Looking Glass. My all time favorite film version of Alice in Wonderland is the 1985 TV version. I wasn't born until 1986, but I know they aired this on occasion afterwards. The Jabberwock scared the living daylights out of me, but the rest of the film is amazing.

If you haven't seen this version of Alice, you need to. The songs are so fun, memorable, and will stuck in your head for ages. I decided to the a mani inspired by the Queen of Hearts dress in that film, using red, gold, and black.

Polishes Used:

Cult Nails Evil Queen, Feedback, and Nevermore

Manicure Description: Painted all fingers except my ring finger with Evil Queen. I layered Feedback over Evil queen on my middle finger, and painted my ring finger with Nevermore topped with Feedback.

This is great color combination! These colors look very elegant and rich together. I love these nails.

Comment below if you've seen the 1985 Alice in Wonderland film! I want to know who else loves it!

Cult Nails Dance All Night

I hope glitter never goes out of style. Never ever. That's not to say I'd wear it anyways. I love how glitter has become acceptable with nails for grown ups over the past few years. I love my sparkle. I need my sparkle. Don't take it away from me!!!

Here is a great sparkler from Cult Nails that I've been swooning over.

Dance All Night over Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle
Dance All Night is a mix of teal and green hex glitters and a iridescent mcri glitter in a clear base.

Color: This glitter is a stunner. This the ocean and mermaids in a bottle. The shimmering cool toned glitter with the iridescent micro glitter make a gorgeous combination! I think that added micro glitter makes this polish.

Formula: Very easy to work with and apply.

Price: $12.00 on the Cult Nails website.

Overall: Excellent glitter topper. Cult Nails has a really nailed it (pun intended) with glitters in 2013! The recent glitter releases seem to be in the same realm of uniqueness and fun as Deborah Lippmann glitters. Love them!

Way-Cool Mani Wednesday- Rock n' Roll

Last night, I had chipped nails and quickly painted them one color. Today, I was already bored. I needed to liven my nails up. I like to do simple manis occasionally, but being pretty subdued by choice in makeup and fashion, I typically like to go all out with nails. Nails is where I have fun! Here is my fun rock n' rollish mani I did. I don't really know why I call it Rock n' Roll. I guess the colors seem pretty wild? I'm probably talking out of my behind now.

Polishes Used:
Cult Nails Disillusion and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Showtime

Manicure Description: Simple here. Cult Nails Disillusion on my thumb, index, and pinky and Sally Hansen Showtime on my middle and ring finger.

I love these colors together. Hot pink, black, and holo silver are awesome! Very fun not dull, and definitely makes a statement!

Bright & Glittery Cult Nails Mani

Once I started doing two accent nails, I can't seem to stop. I feel absolutely silly for not doing this before. One, because it's fun to mix/match different colors. Two, because I'm using more of my polishes. Three, I just love it! I can't stop staring at my nails when I do this, it's so fun and makes me feel good.

Here is a recent two accent mani I did using Cult Nails polishes:

I used Party Time on my index finger and pinky, Be Loco on my middle finger, and Riot topped with Walk of Shame on my ring finger.

I love this mix of colors! It's so bright and fun. These are the type of nails I feel confident in. It's amazing how something as simple as nail polish can boost your confidence and make you feel awesome!

Cult Nails Road Trip, Anyone? Swatches & Giveaway

* The following products were provided to me by Cult Nails for review.

I have to share with you the latest Cult Nails collection--Road Trip, Anyone? today. This is a fun assortment of 3 bright shades with 2 nifty top coats. Also, at the end of my review I will be giving away a set of this collection to one of you!

Be Loco
Be Loco is a bright pinky-coral creme.

Riot
Riot is a bright pastel teal creme.

Party Time
Party Time is a bright marine blue creme.

All Out
L-R: One coat over Party Time Riot, and Be Loco

All Out is an intense yellow-golden shimmer in a clear base.

Mayhem
L-R: One coat over Party Time, Riot, and Be Loco
Mayhem is a silvery holographic top coat.

Color: I love the bright colors in this collection. I think they're fun, vibrant, and saturated. Party Time was really hard to photograph, but it is way more intense and saturated in the photos. All Out can completely change the color of your base polish, while giving it this awesome intense shimmer. Mayhem is a gorgeous holo topper that gives a soft holographic effect.

Formula: I liked the formulas of all of these. I found most of them easy to work with and apply. I did have some issues with Party Time leveling out on my nail a bit, but nothing overly troublesome. Riot and Party Time have the potential to be stainers, but Maria from Cult Nails has provided a short video on how to avoid this.

Price: The collection is currently be sold on the Cult Nails website for $62.00. You will be able to purchase these individually soon.

Overall: I really enjoyed this collection. I love all the base colors, but I'm a bit partial to Riot. I don't have anything like that in my collection. The addition of the 2 top coats is awesome. They both can transform your nails in subtle or a more intense way!

My Rating: 4 out of 5 Paint Splatters

Cult Nails You're My Dandy Lion

I have a beautiful yellow to show you from the Cult Nails In the Garden collection today. Yellows are probably one of the trickiest nail polish colors out there. The formula on yellow polishes has tendency to be streaky and hard to worth with. How will You're My Dandy Lion measure up?

You're My Dandy Lion

You're My Dandy Lion is a sunny yellow with a subtle yellow shimmer.

Color: This is a beautiful sunny yellow. I know yellows can be tricky with some skin tones, but I think this one would be flattering on most. The shimmer in this is very subtle and is virtually indivisible in person

Formula: I used 3 coats in the swatch above. The formula is a little on the thick side, but covers and evens out very nicely on the nail. I'm impressed because most yellows do have a lot of leveling and streaky problems even after 3 coats.

Price: This is $12.00 on the Cult Nails website.

Overall: I really like this yellow. The color is great and the formula covers well and is impressive for a yellow polish!

My Rating: 4 out 5 Paint Splatters

Cult Nails Nakizzle's Shizzle

I'm back! Well, to you I wasn't really gone. The majority of last week my parents were visiting, so I had scheduled posts in advance. I think I was on the computer maybe 20 minutes total the 5 days they were here! I felt so far removed from blog world, but it was a nice little vacation. :)

I have for you today, Cult Nails Nakizzle's Sizzle (that was hard to type, my 7th grade keyboarding is failing me a bit) from the Dance All Night Collection.

Nakizzle's Sizzle
Nakizzle's Shizzle is a bright soft blue creme.

Color: I love this shade blue. It's always clear to me I like a color when I'm always gravitating towards it. I've worn this color twice as mani so far, and it's always coming to mind when I'm thinking of doing any layering combos or nail art. I can't get the color out of my head. It's so fresh and bright!

Formula: The formula on this was good. I did notice this one was a tad thicker than my other Cult Nails polishes. I'd say the same goes for the rest of the cremes in this collection. I'm assuming it's because of the pastel-like quality(?), but these are still very easy to work with. I just noticed they were thicker.

Price: I bought this in the pre-sale set, but you can purchase this now on the Cult Nails website for $12.

Overall: Lovely bright blue! This is a great color, and I think it's a great stable light blue for any collection.

My Rating: 4.5 out 5 Paint Splatters
Happy Monday!
