Glitter Bombing Layering Birthday Fun!

Today is my 26th birthday. That is kind of scary. I actually don't mind getting older, but how fast time goes by these days is scary. I remember being little and a year felt like the equivalent of what 4 years feels like now. A year now feels like the equivalent of 6 months. Does that make any sense? I haven't even had any birthday drinks yet, and I'm blabbering away!

As I said I don't mind getting older. The older I get the more I am coming into my own. I'm starting to feel more comfortable in my skin, and the things in life that used to terrify me don't bother me as much. So, I can't complain. I'm sure there so many people in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and so forth who want to slap people in their 20's for complaining about getting old. Puh-lease. 20's is not old!

Here is my birthday mani!

This was a layering experiment. It is 1 coat Orly Androgynie, 2 coats Butter London The Black Knight, 1 coat Rainbow Honey The Worst Possible Thing, and finally 1 coat of Hits Phenomena Afterglow.

This is so awesome! I need to layer glitters more, you can really come up with some neat results!

I don't have really any big birthday plans. I think a nice dinner, cake, and some shopping will be in the cards. My boyfriend has made it a tradition every year to bake me a cake. He's not a baker or anything, but they're always delicious and it's sweet of him to do it.

Yay! Happy Birthday to me! I normally wouldn't be all like "yay me!" and stuff, but it's my birthday I give myself permission to be a little selfish. It's allowed on your birthday...right? :P

Happy Thursday!

Once Upon a Polish: Scuttle

If you were not aware, The Little Mermaid is my absolute favorite Disney movie. In fact, outside of my nail polish collection I do have a bit of an Ariel collection. I love Ariel. I first saw that movie when I was 3, and I wore out my VHS tape of it along with my cassette tape of the music. Don't worry, they were quickly replaced. I can attribute my love for swimming to The Little Mermaid. I was a fast learner and great swimmer when I was a kid. I know at summer camp they always put me in the highest level of swimming lessons, while the other kids my age were in the lower levels. Thank you to The Little Mermaid I probably will never drown.

I'm rambling, back on the polish track. This is a polish from Once Upon a Polish. She released a handful of The Little Mermaid themed polishes. This one is Scuttle, and I must say she did a great job with it.

Scuttle

Scuttle is sheer, yet buildable light gray base with a mixture of white, black, and micro iridescent glitters.

I did notice this polish had these teeny tiny iridescent micro glitters. I thought that was a cool touch. This polish is really unique and fun. The gray base is great, it is on the sheer side, but I was able to build it up in 3-4 coats. It's certainly a polish I recommend you check out. It's very different than most indie polishes I've seen.

Here is some Scuttle for you too!

Scuttle is currently available on Once Upon a Polish's etsy site for $8.50

New Jordana Specialty Glitter Shades

I think it's safe to say 2012 is the year that glitter nail polish has been fully recognized and appreciated. I'm thrilled about this, it's nice to walk into stores or shop online and see a plethora of glitter polishes. Earlier this year, Jordana released a bunch of specialty glitters to their line. I reviewed Copper Blaze here. They have just released their final 6 shades in this collection. I have those today to show you.

L-R: Red Flash, Galaxy, Purple Party, Confetti, Carnival, & Outer Space

Red Flash

Red Flash is a densely packed glitter consisting of red small hexagonal and large hexagonal glitters in a clear base.

This was 3 coats by itself. This has great coverage. You may have a few small bald spots, so if this bothers you go ahead and use a base. This is a great red, and I might add a hot polish.

Galaxy

Galaxy is a densely packed glitter consisting of silver-gray small hexagonal and large hexagonal glitters in a clear base.

This was 3 coats by itself. As far as finish goes this is just like Red Flash, but in a different color. I love these are dark silver gray glitters as opposed to the true silver glitters we're used to. It's a nice a change. You'll get good coverage with this, but it won't be perfect, so if that bothers you paint on a base beforehand.

Purple Party

Purple Party is a densely packed glitter consisting of mainly medium purple glitters with silver, blue, pink, and possibly gold glitters mixed in there.

This is a 2 coater tops. You are going to get 100% full coverage here. I love glitters like this! I love how they added multiple colors into the purple. It gives the polish depth and brings it to life.

Confetti over a yellow creme

Confetti is a fuchsia large hex glitters in a clear base.

This is 2 coats here. This is a definite layering polish. I love it over yellow or other contrasting colors. I like this color too. It's perhaps not the most original, but it's a good glitter polish.

Carnival

Carnival is deep blue jelly with small blue glitters and large blue, green, and silver glitters mixed in.

Hello!!! Gorgeous! Do I really even need to comment on this one? It really speaks for itself. It's a gorgeous deep jelly, and with those glitters added in -swoon-. I absolutely love jelly glitters, they are my ultimate favorite and this doesn't disappoint.

Outer Space over dark purple creme

Outer Space is a mix of small light blue hex glitters with larger purple and gold hex glitters in a clear base.

This is 2 coats. This is better for layering too. I don't know, I'm not really feeling this one. It just seems a little wimpy against the previous glitters. The color combination isn't my favorite either. I would of preferred a darker blue glitter or a teal glitter. These are just personal things though. As far as formulation go, it's a good glitter. I'm just not a personal fan.

I really enjoyed these glitters. I love the variety of shades and colors. My favorites of the bunch are Red Flash, Purple Party, and Carnival. You know what I love about these polishes too? They're only $2.99 a piece on the Jordana website. I think these are the most affordable glitters out there at the moment. You can safely buy handful of these and not feel guilty. I've also been able to find the specialty glitter line at KMart. If you have a KMart near you it would be worth a look.

Cherry Culture Haul & Moo Cards

I recently did a Cherry Culture haul, and I'll put it on record it's probably one of the best hauls I've ever done! I always have seen nail polish on Cherry Culture, but I always held back from purchasing because majority of the polishes I could never find swatches of. I then saw this haul from Bonny Binnacle, and it pushed me over the edge. I'm going to take a risk!

I ended up ordering 11 polishes, 9 NYX and 2 Sinful Colors. I was able to see a few swatches, but I'd say 8 out of the 11 of these I relied on the swatches on the website, which is never a good guide. When I got my package yesterday, I was over the moon!

 L-R: NYX Girls
Maven, Complex Purple, Collection Noir, & Emerald Forest

L-R: NYX Girls
Frizz Spots, Turks & Caicos, & Dorothy (I'm pretty sure this is a dupe to Deborah Lippmann Ruby Red Slippers

L-R: NYX
Las Vegas & Maroon

L-R: Sinful Colors
Suede Shoes & Agaci

I am so impressed with these polishes. A few of these polishes are better for layering, but there are quite a few that are opaque within a reasonable amount of coats. If you are a glitter lover these are most definitely for you. These are some of the most unique glitters I've ever encountered! It's safe to say I'm sure some of these polishes will make it into my Top 20 of 2011! I of course, will be posting swatches of these soon! :)

I also went ahead and made some mini moo cards for my blog. These are small sized business cards. I learned about these through The PolishAholic & Once Bitten. You can really be creative and customize these cards to your liking. On the other hand, if you're not in the creative spirit , you can go a very simple route. They have a lot of templates you can choose from, fonts, colors and etc. This is what I did.  I know these are probably a little yawn-worthy to some, but I like the simple right now! I only got a 100 cards to start, so maybe later on I'll create some more exciting ones.

I like the design I chose for the back. It's not only that design, but there are quite a few different "painted" looking designs. I think the design suited my blog name. I like them. They're cute, and they'll be fun to put in giveaway and swap packages! :)

Happy Friday!

Revlon Just Add Sparkle Glitters

In the midst of the psychotic CVS lady from the other day, I did manage to have a successful nail polish trip.  They had Revlon products BOGO 50% off and I spotted the new Revlon glitters so I decided to get them all. I'm glad I spotted them because they were hidden in the deep dark corner on the bottom shelf. I hope no one was hiding them :P.

This collection came with 4 creme colors Galaxy (black creme), Ruby (red creme), Silver (grey creme), and Rock (purple creme). All of these creme shades came with sparkly glitter top coats as their counterparts. Each of these top coats corresponded to the creme color. I only purchased the glitters, since the cremes were pretty standard colors I already had in my collection.

L-R: Galaxy, Slipper, Belle, & Star

Galaxy
This is Galaxy layered of Wet n' Wild Black Creme. Galaxy is prominently a mix of black glitter mixed in with blue, gold, and silver glitter and, silver holographic hexagonal glitters all  suspended in a clear base. I really love the variation of the colors with the glitter in this one.

Belle
This is Belle layered over Milani Day Dreaming. Belle is prominently a silver glitter mixed in with gold, blue, and silver holographic hexagonal glitters suspended in a clear base. This is not a look I would ever think to go for but I quite like it!

Slipper
This is Slipper layered over Revlon Raven Red. Slipper is prominently red glitter with silver glitter and silver holographic hexagonal glitter suspended in a clear base. I love this one, then again I'm sucker for red glitter anything. I'm interested in layering this over a blue. I bet it would be great for 4th of July even though that's so far away! :P

Star
This is Star layered over OPI Funky Dunkey. Star is a purple and silver glitter mixed in with silver holographic hexagonal glitter suspended in a clear base.

Here are all the glitters layered over black.
Index to Pinky- Galaxy, Star, Slipper, & Belle.

Overall, I really enjoyed these glitters. I have read a lot of comments from people on whether they should get these or not. I don't think these are must haves, but for me I'm glad I bought them. I first was unsure because they didn't seem to have much variation between the glitters, but at a closer glance these all have their own unique blend of different color glitters. Also, you don't have to go by Revlon's guidelines obviously you can layer these over any color and you'll get different results.

If you're into glitters and layering a lot then I think these would be right for you. I personally like having all of them. I like the addition of the hexagonal glitter that isn't very common in drugstore polishes. I think if you're on the fence, getting one of these will probably do the job. If I had to pick a favorite I'd go with either Galaxy or Belle because they have the most dimension and would probably be the most universal as far as you could layer it over anything. Galaxy and Rock are similar but Galaxy is better. I personally love Slipper because I love red glitters, but if you're not into red much this one wouldn't be necessary. Again, I don't these are must haves, but they're nice additions. I think it just comes down to your personal tastes and what you like to do with your polish.

I hope this review gives some insight and helps some of you out rather than left you dumbfounded! Now if we can only get Revlon to bring back Street Wear polishes!

Happy Monday!
