Throwbacks Week: Maybelline Street Art Blue Beats

Remember when black and white glitters were all the rage? I remember when you could only find these types of glitters from indies. In early 2014, Maybelline decided to do their take on the black and white glitter, but adding colored matte glitter with black instead. This was one of my favorites from that collection and I loved seeing a drugstore brand take on the trend.

Blue Beats over Sinful Colors Endless Blue
Blue Beats is a mix of varying types of a black and light blue glitter in a clear base.

Collection: Maybelline Street Art Collection January 2014

Color: I love the use of the blue matte glitter paired with the black. I love this color combination and how it does offer something unique rather than just black and white glitter. I like how these colors really stand out against my base color.

Formula: Excellent and very easy to use glitter formula. There was no fishing or dabbing glitters here. I used 2 coats over a base.

Price: This was a limited edition collection, but you can still find it online if you search in the $3-$5 range.

Overall: I love this fun glitter and it reminds me I need to use glitter toppers more. I usually at bar glitter, but it works in this polish because it is mixed with other glitter shapes. It looks like confetti. I love the color and how it makes a statement on my nails.

Third Week Throwbacks: Maybelline Crushed Crimson

This is another big loss in nail polish in my opinion. When Maybelline shifted to their Color Show collection they had two years of spectacular holiday limited edition collection. In 2012 it was their Sequins collection and in 2013 they had their Brocades collection. I purchased every single one of those polishes in both collections. In fact, my review of the Brocades collection is my most popular to date. I still get daily views of it!

I waited and waited in 2014 for another Maybelline holiday collection to pop up and nothing ever came. I think 2013 was the end of awesome drugstore polish. I haven't seen anything really notable at the drugstore in well over a year and half. That being said, let's go back in time to this 2013 Maybelline Brocades beauty.

Crushed Crimson
Crushed Crimson is a deep red with a golden shimmer, red hex glitters, and gold hex glitters.

Collection: Maybelline Brocades Holiday 2013

Color: In most cases shimmer and glitter combos do not work. In Crushed Crimson and this whole collection it works. This is a stunning red with so many beautiful blingy aspects. The shimmer and the glitter really give this a beautiful effect. I love the intensity of this color and all of the added bling.

Formula: Excellent formula. I used 2 coats.

Price: The problem with drugstore limited edition collections is once they're gone...they're gone. I've seen some other colors from this collection pop up on eBay, but this is definitely going to be HTF.

Overall: Crushed Crimson is a stunning nail polish. I love the combination of shimmer and glitter in this polish and the red base. This color and the others in this collection I will always cherish. These are polish I will never de-stash. They're beautiful, unique, and one of kind!

Maybelline Mink Lust

One of the things I always complain about is finding the right nude creme for myself. There are so many nude cremes out there that are yellow-toned. I can't wear them, they make me look sick. It's hard to find a pink-toned nude out there.

I was pleased to find one at the drugstore recently though. Thank you Maybelline! This one is part of their new-ish Blushed Nudes collection that I believe is now part of their core line.

Mink Lust
Mink Lust is a soft mauve pink creme.

Collection: Maybelline The Blushed Nudes 2015

Color: This is a beautiful soft color. This definitely would work on anyone with cooler toned skin as a great nude and palette cleanser polish. The color while soft is pigmented and opaque. This isn't one of those sheer colors that takes forever to build up. It's a true creme.

Formula: Nice creamy formula. I used 3 coats above.

Price: I purchased this in the $3-$4 range at Target.

Overall: Lovely nude creme for those of us who tend to get lobster hands with other nudes. I love this soft shade and that it's is a true creme. On top of that it's a drugstore polish and very affordable.

Maybelline Fuchsia Fever

Have you ever bought a polish knowing in the back of your mind that it might be mistake? I had this feeling with this Maybelline polish. I don't think it was entirely a mistake, but I kind of had a feeling what I was seeing in the bottle wasn't going to be what I got on my nails. I should of listened to my intuition. I knew what was going on with this one, but I got it anyways.

Fuchsia Fever
Fuchsia Fever is a berry-purple jelly.

Collection: Maybeline Color Show Core

Color: This is one of those fake out bright purples. You can see from the bottle can't you? In the bottle this looked like it would be a bright violet creme. No, this is one of those very sheer weird jelly red-toned purples. In the bottle the polish doesn't look well mixed. I should of known better, well I did know better. I just thought there was at least 1% of it being what I wanted it to be.

Formula: This formula is pretty bad. It's very sheer and very patchy. I used 4 coats above and you can see areas of my nails where it's more bare than others. The formula wasn't bad or hard to apply, it just isn't pigmented at all and uneven.

Price: I paid around $3-$4 for this at Walmart.

Overall: Don't be fooled by this one. It's a mess. It's not what it looks like or what you want it to be. Fake out purple galore.

Throwback Thursday: Maybelline Goody Plum Drop

I think I'm going to turn Throwback Thursday into a vintage polish Throwback Thursday from now on. I have so many polishes I purchased in my early days of collection and blogging that are long discontinued or just so old they are long forgotten. Some of these polishes have never been featured on my blog or haven't been in 4+ years.

I know this means I will be featuring some polishes that you can no longer purchase, but this is fun realm of nail polish I'd like to revisit on my blog. I hope you all will still enjoy these posts, and I will definitely feature some polishes that are still available for purchase.

This next Maybelline takes us back to Spring 2010!

Goody Plum Drop
Goody Plum Drop is a lilac with subtle silvery shimmer.

Collection: Maybelline Sweet Thing Spring 2010

Color: I love this purple shade. What I love about it is isn't a typical pastel shade for spring. This is a more of medium-light lilac which isn't a color I have a lot of in my stash. This is a great shade of purple, and I love the addition of the shimmer.

Formula: The formula on this was nice. I used 3 coats above. I did have to add some thinner to this because after 5 years it was a little thick!

Price: Discontinued. I've scoured the internet but I can't find this one. This was a limited edition release when it came out. I even had a hard time finding it and had to ask around from some one who had a spare bottle. Nouveau Cheap actually passed this along to me a few years ago! Many thanks to her!

Overall: This is a definite oldie favorite of mine. Goody Plum Drop will never leave my stash. I love the shade of purple so much, and I so wish this whole collection would be re-released!

Throwback Thursday: Maybelline Zip Fly

I have a Maybelline oldie to share with you today. This is a major oldie too, as I can't date it, but I'm sure its around 15 years or 15+ years old. That's ancient in nail polish years. I wish I could say I've owned this one for that long, but I remember purchasing this from a blog sale shortly after I started blogging in 2010.

Zip Fly
Zip Fly is a deep jewel-toned blue base with a subtle shimmer and micro silver glitter.

Collection: Maybelline Express Finish- Finish Denim late 90's-early 00's(?) Can anyone confirm when this collection was released?

Color: This is a beautiful color, and I know why I purchased this from a blog sale. It reminded me a lot of the elusive Essie Starry Starry Night. This isn't a dupe or even a near dupe though. There isn't enough glitter and the shimmer in Zip Fly make this more of a cousin than a twin or a sister. That being said, it's a gorgeous blue, and I love the combination of shimmer and sparkle here.

Formula: This formula for being over a decade old is still realy nice. I used 3 coats above. It has thickened and bit, but nothing unmanageable at all.

Price: No clue. You can't find this one anymore unfortunately. There was a time a couple years ago, colors like this popped up at Dollar Tree, but I'm betting those days are over.

Overall: Beautiful nail polish that I'm glad to own. This is one I'll never part with. It's unique, pretty, and it's just so old! Respect your elder polishes!

Pastel Bright Skittle Birthday Nails

Today is my birthday, and what is a birthday without a birthday mani?

This is probably the first birthday I didn't go all out and do some gigantic glitter bomb manicure. I kept it simple this year, but fun and bright! I'm happy with it.

Polishes Used: Maybelline Ultra Violet, Coral Heat, and Cult Nails New Day

I can't get enough of these pastel bright colors. I love them so much!

Happy Saturday!

Maybelline Nighttime Noise

It's May, but it might as well be August. Summer has decided to start early here in Florida. I know a lot of people love Florida for the warmth and sunshine. I love Florida for the warmth and sunshine October-May. June-September the warmth and sunshine is oppressive! It's been so miserably humid and hot the past week. I hate walking outside the door and within 5 minutes you need to get in the shower. Blech! I wish summer would of just waited one more month. Why not some cool blue polish for today? I have one of the new Maybelline Street Art polishes to share with you.

Nighttime Noise over Eva Powder Blue
Nighttime Noise is a glitter mix of true blue and black glitters.

Color: Great combination of colors in this mix. I love the vibrant blue paired with black.

Formula: Excellent formula. I used one coat above, so these are really buildable. I wouldn't expect opacity from these, but you can definitely acheive a dense finish easily.

Price: This is $3-$4 range at most drugstores and big box stores. This is part of the Color Show core line now.

Overall: This is a great glitter topper. The color combination is great, the formula is nice, and so is the price. I love seeing fun glitter toppers at the drugstore. Great polish all around.

Maybeline Pink Splatter

I have another one of the Maybelline Color Show Street Art polishes to share with you today. This one is called Pink Splatter. I have swatches of Blue Beats and Wild at Heart already on previous blog posts.

Pink Splatter over Sinful Colors Energetic Red
Pink Splatter is a pale pink and black glitter mix in a clear base.

Color: Pink schmink. This barely constitutes as pink. This is 0.2 shades away from white. There is no way if you're looking at this from any farther than 1ft away would you think this was pink. This looks white from any distance unless it's a few inches from your face.

Formula: Great formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: I paid around $3-$4 for this at CVS.

Overall: I wish this was more pink than it really is, because there are lots of white & black glitter toppers out there, and this pretty much looks the same except for a very faint pink-hue. It's not a bad polish at all, but being so pale in color it doesn't make it very unique.

Maybelline Blue Beats

The catch of the day today is Maybelline Blue Beats. This is part of the Color Show Street Art line that was released the beginning of this year.

Blue Beats over Sinful Colors Endless Blue
Blue Beats is a mix of light blue and black matte glitters in a clear base.

Color: I like the mix of the light blue and black. I love matte color glitter mixed with black anyways!

Formula: Easy to apply. I used 2 coats above.

Price: I paid around $3-$4 for this at CVS.

Overall: Fun glitter topper. I love the color combination and the drugstore price.

Maybelline Wild at Heart

Nouveau Cheap blog is my all time favorite blog. I'm a big cosmetics shopper in the drugstore, and I learn about everything new from Nouveau Cheap. Drugstore nail polish collections unfortunately don't make a big mark on blogs. I blame the companies, they don't have bloggers reviewing their products, but that's a whole other topic. Thankfully, Nouveau Cheap and her readers always have their eyes peeled in the drugstore to let us know what's out there! That's how I found out about the new Maybelline Color Show Street Art collection. I picked up a few of these when I spotted them, and I have Wild at Heart to share with you today.

Wild at Heart over Sinful Colors Endless Blue
Wild at Heart is a mix of matte red hex glitters, red bar glitters, and black hex glitters in a clear base.

Color: I love color glitters mixed with black. They just look so fun and edgy. This is great color mix, and especially neat to find this with a drugstore price tag.

Formula: Great formula. I found this be easy to use and apply. I used 2 coats above.

Price: I purchased this around the $3-$4 mark at Ulta. I've also seen this collection at CVS.

Overall: I love this glitter. I like how drugstores brands are starting to dabble into indie-like polishes. I love the price point, and the availability of a polish like Wild at Heart.

Maybelline Color Show LE Brocades Collection

There is always a drugstore LE holiday collection every year that turns me into the drugstore stalker. I stalk the drugstores for weeks looking for this one particular collection. This year, the collection was the Maybelline Color Show Brocade collection. This collection has 8 multi-faceted glitters, but wait there's more. There is also a second display with two more polishes in this collection. I suggest checking out Nouveau Cheap's post to learn more about both of these collections.
 Amethyst Couture
Amethyst Couture is a deep eggplant glass fleck with purple hex glitters.

Beaming Blue
Beaming Blue is glass fleck icy blue with blue hex glitters.

Black in Mirrors over Cult Nails Nevermore
Black in Mirrors a is micro charcoal glitter with gold hex glitters.

Crushed Crimson
Crushed Crimson is a deep red glass fleck with small gold hex glitters and medium red hex glitters.

Embellished Blues
Embellished Blues is a denim glass fleck with small gold hex glitters and medium blue hex glitters.

Emerald Elegance
Emerald Elegance is a deep emerald glass fleck with small gold hex glitters and medium green hex glitters.

Gilded Rose
Gilded Rose is a sheer role gold glass fleck with small gold hex glitters and rose medium hex glitters.

Lavishly Lilac
Lavishly Lilac is a lilac glass fleck with small pink, blue, and gold hex glitters and lilac medium hex glitters.

Ruby Refined
Ruby Refined is a red glass fleck with red hex glitters.

Silver Swank
Silver Swank is a silver glass fleck with gold micro glitters and medium silver hex glitters.

Colors: This collection is un-freaking believable. These are like Zoya's Sparkle collection from summer 2010, with added glitter. This is one of those times the nail polish company surprised me. I never could of even thought up a finish like this in my head. These have so much dimension. Fan-freaking-tastic. This collection is like have a treasure chest full of jewels. The only dupe here is Gilded Rose to a-england She Walks in Beauty, but the rest are completely and entirely unique.

Formula: The formula on 9 out of 10 of these was good. The only dud in this collection is Black in Mirrors. The other polishes in this collection had a base, Black in Mirrors was all glitter. I needed base polish for this one, and it was on the chunky side. The rest I used 2-3 coats of each.

Price: These were $4.19 each at CVS. I've also heard these can be found at Bed, Bath & Beyond (with cosmetic sections) and Rite Aid. These maybe priced differently in your area.

Overall: Run, don't walk to get these beauties. This collection is limited edition. The displays I've seen only have room for 2 polishes per color. The colors are beautiful. The finish of these polishes is something I have not seen before, and for them to be a drugstore polish is amazing. This is probably my favorite collection of the entire year, not just drugstore, in general. I can't pick favorites. The only one I say you could pass on is Black in Mirrors. Maybelline hit it out of the park with this one!
