NYC Fuchsia Glamour

*I've added a new rating system on my blog. I'm now breaking down my review, and rating the polishes on scale of 0-5. I hope you like this change!

I would say the trickiest category of nail polish I've found over the years are sheer pinks--the "your nails but better polishes".  I don't want a sheer pink that is going to show every flaw and stain in my nails. I don't want sheer pink that is streaky and uneven. I don't want a sheer pink that takes 5-6 coats to get any sort of opacity, only to find out 3 hours later that it hasn't dried fully and is smudged and full of cat hair. No. I want a sheer pink that can build up nicely in 3 coats, cover up my nail flaws, dry in a reasonable amount of time, and make my nails look fresh and clean. That's what I want. This has been almost impossible to find. I did find it recently with JulieG Bubble Bath, but I also found it with NYC and for under $1!

NYC Fuchsia Glamour *
Fuchsia Glamour is a pale sheer pink with a golden iridescent glass fleck glitter.

Color: The color of this is beautiful. I absolutely love the addition of this gorgeous iridescent glass fleck glitter. I  also find this shade of pink to be very forgiving and flattering.

Formula: Pretty spectacular considering how elusive good quality polishes like this can be. I used 3 medium-thick coats in this swatch, and I got almost full opaque coverage. I'd say you'd need 4 if you're doing thin coats, but I don't find that unreasonable   There are some thinner areas, but nothing that I would make a fuss over at all. This formula was smooth and easy to work with.

Price: I paid $0.97 for this at Walmart Neighborhood Market. I think in other stores it's $0.99. This price is amazing for a polish like this. I can't get an $8 sheer pink Essie to even get remotely close to this type of coverage in 3 coats.

Overall: Absolutely awesome polish! I really can't complain for that price!

*I've read on Nouveau Cheap that this polish is actually supposed to be called Pink Champagne. That makes sense since there isn't anything fuchsia about this, but from what I gathered they were all mass mislabeled as Fuchsia Glamour. Ooops NYC!

My Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Paint Splatters!!!

NYC Tudor City Teal

I mentioned last week that NYC released some new colors to their line. I have another one of those polishes to show you today. I couldn't not have this polish when I saw the color of it. I think many of you will feel the same.

Tudor City Teal
Tudor City Teal is a muted light teal creme.

I LOVE this color. I'd paint my room this color if I could. I am seriously head over heals for colors like this right now. Any type of muted green, teal, or blue I need. This color is gorgeous! The application of this was not so great. It wasn't terrible, but it did have the same watery, sheer, and uneven formula as Boat Basin. That being said, it built up nicely in 3 coats, and any unevenness you might see in the photo was not apparent in real life. I promise! I adore this polish despite its formula. I think it's a must have too especially for a color like this for only $0.99!

I purchased this at Walmart.

Happy Tuesday!

NYC Boat Basin

NYC has never been a brand I've really liked. They do have really cheap nail polishes, but I never found any of the colors to really stand out to me. I also never really cared for their formula. I did notice recently that they added some new shades to their core line. The shades I saw were definitely on trend, fun, and definitely appealing for being under $1! This is one I picked up.

NYC Boat Basin
Boat Basin is a rich royal blue creme.

I just want to throw this out there this isn't a dupe to Nails Inc. Baker St. oar any of those other very saturated almost neon cobalt blues. This is a rich blue but is a bit darker a tinge more muted than those shades. This is a wonderful blue though and very in line with many of the other blues we are seeing in other nail polish collections.

The first coat of this scared me, and reminded me of why I stopped buying NYC. The first coat was thin, watery, and very uneven. The second coat covered really nicely though! I was shocked. In person it looked to be completely opaque, however, I'm noticing in the photo it doesn't look as opaque as it did in person. I didn't notice any need to add a 3rd coat in person, but if you feel the need to it wouldn't hurt. I consider 3 coats of polish average anyways.

Overall, I was really surprised with this one. I think for $0.99 this as great deal for a color like this. The formula is not perfect, but I can't dismiss this one at all!

I purchased this polish at Walmart.

Happy Friday!

NYC Wing It Wine Creme

Ok, NYC. You and I need to have a talk about this "creme" business. Why do you name almost all of your colors as cremes when they are really glitters, shimmers, or duochromes? I find this annoying, but I guess at $0.99 a bottle I cannot complain...but come on really????

Wing It Wine Creme *cough* NOT CREME

Despite the faulty finish description, this is a gorgeous duochrome. I admit NYC is probably my least favorite drugstore polish, but I'd consider this a winning polish along with Love Letter. This is a what I'd call a orchid color shimmer with a gorgeous golden pink duochrome. I'd say it's a purple, but more of a pink toned purple.

I think this a great polish for fall and for a great price. It's not a must have, but definite nice addition to the collection.

Happy Saturday!

NYC Love Letters over Black (Pic Heavy)

Over the past few days I've been skimming Nail Board on Makeupalley. I really haven't read into many things, but I kept seeing NYC Love Letters mentioned. I really didn't pay attention to why, but when I went to WalMart today I saw this color and I figured there must be a reason everyone was talking about. The problem was this looked like the most boring shades ever. It's sheer pink shimmer. Very blah. Then I remembered the magic must happen when you layer it over black. I was in for a surprise!

Behold the greatness!!!! ( I took a ton of pics to show you how it looks in different light and angles)

Wow wow, whose ingenious idea was this? I'm not sure who figured this combination out, but they really hit the jackpot with this discovery. Love Letters has this duochromey pink/blue/purple foily shimmer layered over the black. In certain lights it looks similar to Orly Galaxy Girl, but it is very different. The shimmer in Love Letters has similiar spectrum of colors, but while Galaxy Girl shimmer is prominently an aqua shimmer with duochrome, Love Letters really showcases pink, purple, and blue equally. I hope that makes sense.  That being said this definitely could be up there with an Orly Cosmix color. You get the same type of an effect and for only $2. I used WnW Black Creme  99 cents  and NYC Love Letters 99 cents. Plus, unlike the Orly Cosmix, Love Letters is a layering polish so you can layer this over various colors and get different looks.  You can not go wrong! I would also say this is a must have!

That's all for today, except who do I credit to for this awesome combination?

Happy Wednesday!
