Throwbacks Week: Rimmel Mania

Last week was supposed to be Throwbacks Week since it was the 3rd week of the month, but my brain blanked out on that. We'll pretend it's the 3rd week of the month! Today, I have an oldie Rimmel polish to share with you. I got this in a swap a couple years ago so I'm not sure of its origin entirely. I did look it up online and the earliest post I saw on it was in 2009, but even that blogger said it was older than that.

Mania
Mania is a peacock green with golden-green color-shifting shimmer.

Collection: Unknown?

Color: It's really neat to come across such a magical polish from years ago. I love this deep blue-green base color. We all know it's that color-shifting shimmer that makes the polish so special. It really gives this polish that lit-from-within glow.

Formula: This formula was great. I used 2 coats above. The formula hasn't suffered any over the years. It applied smoothly and easily.

Price: This is available on eBay for $6.98!

Overall: This is a great Rimmel shade. If I remember correctly Rimmel used to make some really great shimmer polishes, and they don't really do that anymore. Granted, drugstore nail polish brands haven't really created unique polishes in a long time. Mania is a rare old gem that I'm definitely holding on to!

Rimmel Salon Pro Saturn

Last week, I was mentioning my disappointment with drugstore nail polish lately. I rarely any nail polish I'm interested in at the drugstore anymore. It sucks and I really miss finding drugstore polish. I did happen to find one recently though. I was browsing CVS recently and saw little "NEW" signs next to some of the Rimmel Salon Pro colors and I find a color that caught my eye!

Saturn
Saturn is a metallic olive-bronze shimmer.

Collection: Rimmel Salon Pro Core

Color: This is a beautiful and rich shimmer. This is one of those colors dependent on the light it can look more like an olive golden green or a bronze-brown. I love the intensity of this color and it's absolutely perfect for fall. I also found it be a very flattering shade as colors like this don't tend to look very nice on my skin tone.

Formula: I love the formula of these Rimmel Salon Pro polishes. I have a reviewed a few in the past and they continue to impress me. The formulas are very smooth, buttery, and easy to apply. I used 2 coats above.

Price: I paid $2.99 for this at CVS

Overall: This is an absolute and must needed drugstore win. I love the this rich color, and it's not your average drugstore nail polish color. The formula on this as well as the other Salon Pro polishes is consistently great, and you can't beat the price tag.

Rimmel Barmy Blue

This next polish is from the newer Rimmel Salon Pro line. As I've mentioned before I am incredibly impressed with this line. The polishes have a gel-like finish and a top notch formula. The best part of these polishes is they're $2.99! I have an amazing cobalt blue to share with you today.

Barmy Blue
Barmy Blue is a deep cobalt blue in between a jelly and creme (crelly?).

Color: Cobalt blue has definitely been an on trend color in nail polish for the last 2-3 years. This shade of blue is actually darker and more saturated than some of my other brighter blues. Barmy Blue is unique to me, and it's a great color!

Formula: Excellent formula here. This had the same buttery and smooth formula as the other Rimmel Salon Pro polishes I have tried. The finish is not quite a jelly finish, but not quite a creme either. I guess that constitutes it as a crelly? I used 2 coats above.

Price: I paid $2.99 for this at CVS. CVS tends offer Rimmel every so often  as BOGO 50% OFF. I'd recommend you stock up on a few of these then!

Overall: Barmy Blue is an excellent color with excellent formula at a very affordable price. I highly recommend this color and other colors from the Rimmel Salon Pro line. My only complaint is I wish this line had a wider range of colors.

Rimmel Salon Pro Hip Hop

I have another Rimmel Salon Pro nail polish to share with you today. This is a new core line of polish released by Rimmel. In my last review, I mentioned how much I loved this line. These have a great formula, a nice selection of colors, and a great price!

Hip Hop
Hip Hop is a bright orange-red creme.

Color: No, this color isn't unique, but it is great. I love this punchy orange-red, and it's a definite staple in every nail polish collection.

Formula: Excellent formula. These really have gel-like finish. They're very shiny, smooth, and apply like butter.

Price: This was $2.99 at Walmart.

Overall: I love Hip Hop. I'm pleased that these shades so far are consistently great in this line. I think this a great color, and if you need a orange-red in your collection, you'll be pleased with Hip Hop.

Rimmel Salon Pro Britpop

Nail polish prices just keep going up. The average drugstore nail polish price range a few years ago was probably $3-$5 range, now it's more like $4.50-$8. The mainstream polishes were in the $5-$8 range, now everything seems to be $7-$10. I've grown accustomed to the price increase, but it's so nice to find quality nail polishes at a lower price in the drugstore.

I came across these new Rimmel Salon Pro polishes a few weeks ago. These have replaced the Lasting Finish Pro line, and are core. I am so impressed with these polishes. These are made with lyrca and said to have gel-shine finish. I will say the color selection is not very unique, but honestly if I was just starting my nail polish collection, I'd want to have these as some of my foundation colors, they're that good! The best part is that they are $2.99 a pop!

Britpop
Britpop is a bright teal creme.

Color: This color is one of the Kate Moss inspired shades. This color is bright and saturated. I'm sure there are other teals like this, but this is an awesome color.

Formula: The formula on this was excellent. I found the formula to be really buttery, smooth, and creamy (No this isn't food, but it applied like buttah!). I used 2 coats above. The brush is shorter/wider, tapered, and covered my nail perfectly in one pass. The formula is so shiny and dried shiny. I have never used proper "gel" polishes, but this seemed gel-like as far as appearance and formulation.

Price: $2.99 each. This is such a great price especially in this day in age. These are currently BOGO 50% off at CVS.

Overall: Can you tell I love this? Britpop rocks! I love being impressed by something. I have 3 other shades I purchased from this line and they're all equally amazing. There are 11 shades in this line, and while no, they're not unique, they're excellent in formula, and great in price. I know in the UK they have more shades in this line. I hope they expand this line in the US or at least release LE collections with new shades! Check out Nouveau Cheap's post to see the displays pics of this line.

Rimmel Magic Stardust

The nail community has been spoiled with glitter bombs lately from indies. We know a fantastic, blingtastic, and heavy packed glitter are possible. I think sometimes this leaves us disappointed when we encounter a mainstream or drugstore brand who puts out less than stellar glitter, that maybe sparse and less dense. I thought this would be the case with Rimmel Magic Stardust because it's sparse, but I'm not disappointed.

Rimmel Magic Stardust over Zoya Carey
Magic Stardust is a mix of blue hex glitters and micro silver and pink holo glitters in a clear base.

Color: I love this soft glitter mix. The blue in this polish definitely pops, but I find it blends nicely with the softer glitters.

Formula: This formula was smooth and easy to apply, but this is very sparse. I used 3 coats above. I actually like my finished look very much, but I wish I could of achieved this in 1-2 coats instead of 3.

Price: I believe this was $1.69 at Walgreens. There were a handful of other polishes in this display. This is a steal price nail polish.

Overall: I really love this soft glitter. I actually love it the way it is, not being a glitter bomb. That being said, I wish it didn't require that many coats, just to get this result. The price on this is great. I don't recall the last time I paid under $2.00 retail on a nail polish, unless something was on sale or at Dollar Tree!

Rimmel Midnight Blue

It took me forever and day to try Rimmel's Lasting Finish Pro nail polish line. I miss the other varieties they used to sell, that I can find still randomly find at K-Mart and Wal- Mart. I was never really impressed with the color selection in the Lasting Finish Pro line. It's the very standard selection of colors, however when I saw a few in the CVS beauty sale. I decided to try them! I was impressed.

Midnight Blue
Midnight Blue is a deep navy blue with a light blue shimmer.

Beautiful. I'm always a sucker for a deep blue. Deep blues are some of my favorite colors as far as nail polish. What I love most about this though is  the formula. This formula is amazing! This applies like butter, no streaks, no drag, the perfect consistency, and etc. I know my main focus on nail polish is color, but it's amazing how a great formula can tickle my fancy. I think I have so many polishes that have just average formula, that I'm always so pleasantly surprised when I come across one that is great.

Happy Wednesday!

Rimmel Mania

***I've added some new items to my blog sale!***

Not all polishes are created equal. I've come across many colors. I'd say for the most part I like to love most everything on this blog. There are some stinky colors, but in general I'm overall pleased. Then there are these colors that just blow my mind. There is a difference from just loving a color, even REALLY loving a color, and being completely gobsmacked by one. This Rimmel polish, holy bananas is S-P-E-C-T-A-C-U-L-A-R!

Mania

Mania is deep inky teal duochrome with a golden-greenish iridescent micro shimmer.

Yes, it is one of those that requires a multiple photos. Depending on the light this could be an emerald green, deep teal, and various other shades of beautiful blue and green. It kind of has this syrupy look to it, that I really can't describe.I'm convinced Rimmel didn't make this, fairies, mermaids, elves, wizards or something otherworldly did. It was probably made along with the Great Rings forged for  Elves, Dwarf Lords, and Men in Middle Earth.

This is an older polish. I have no idea where it comes from or when it was made. I got this from Kari from Once Bitten. Her, Kimberly from Libby's Pink Vanity,  and I met up for lunch a few weeks ago and exchanged a few polishes. Kari did not want this one. When I got home and swatched it, I had to message her and ask if she was sure she didn't want this?!? She said it stained her nails. She's right this stains your nails, but I'm so willing to let that slide. Stain my nails all you want!

Happy Thursday!

Guest Post: Emily's Nail Files- "Best of British" Swatch-Fest

Hello everyone!
First of all, thank you to Steph who is letting some of her fellow polish addicts guest post on her blog while shes away – we hope you have a lovely holiday!
My name is Emily, of Emily’s Nail Files, and I’ve decided to show you a sort of ‘Best of British’ swatch-fest. I’ve done some swatches of my personal favourite British Brand polishes to hopefully give you an idea of what we can get over here in the UK, and what I usually work with when doing Nail Art.

Firstly, Topshop polishes – a recent discovery of mine. Although Topshop are more well known for their clothing, I find the formula of their polishes is fantastic, and the colour selection is interesting and different. This is Two coats of their periwinkle blue, Celestial:

Here is 3 coats of Peaches and Cream, a peachy orange cream, which dries a little darker than it appears in the bottle:

Next up is Models Own, these retail for the same price as the Topshop Polishes, and have just collaborated with super-fashionable London Nail Art Salon WAH Nails to create their “smash up” range, a really good range of crackle polishes that I find bettere is Model’s Own Pastel Pink:

This is a really lovely baby pink cream, and is opaque in 2 coats and not a bit streaky – love it! Here it is with the Silver Smash Up over the top:

This is a thin coat, with no topcoat. I would love to see how this compares to OPI Silver Shatter, as this Models Own is half the price over here.
Barry M is probably my all time favourite UK Polish brand, with really bright, unique colours (as well as a Chanel Paradoxal dupe!). They also do fantastic glitter polishes, and their black crackle is my favourite to use. Here is their Boots Limited Edition polish, the perfect purple in my opinion:

This is with Barry M Hologram Hexograms over the top, a holographic, chunky hex glitter which is amaaaazing when it catches the light! The formula for these polishes is perfect – if you ever get a chance to get hold of some Barry Ms, DO IT!! Here is their supe for Chanel’s Paradoxal:

Although available worldwide, Rimmel London have a range of Fruity Polishes which I loooove! Here is Apricot punch, a gorgeous red based coral, that smells exactly as the name suggests :D

My favourite ever beige nude, is Nails Inc London’s Caramel, which came free with a diet coke promotion – it applies beautifully, and is such a lovely warm shade of brown, exactly like caramel sauce :D Note the Cupcake stamping from the bundlemonster plates too!

I hope you enjoyed your whistle-stop tour through my favourite British Brands, thanks to Steph for hosting! If you want to see nail art (which is my blog’s speciality!) you can check out my little corner of the internet at http://emilysnailfiles.blogspot.com/

Take care, Emily! x

Rimmel Hot Rock

I miss the Rimmel 60 Second and Lycra Pro nail polish lines. The newer Lasting Pro finish line has nice bottles, but a VERY limited selection of colors. I've only been able to find the older lines at K-Mart and Wal Mart, two stores I do not frequent. I really enjoyed the color selection of these lines, and I hope at some point they introduce a better color selection. This next polish was part of the Lycra line, and I found it all by itself in a clearance been a Walmart.

Hot Rock
Hot Rock is a warm red jelly with golden glass fleck glitter.

I love red and I love golden shimmers/glittery finishes, so the combination of these is something I cannot pass up on. This is fiery, bright, and bold. I love this vibrant and spicy shade.

Rimmel please bring us some more colors!

Happy Thursday!

Summer Reds!!!

I think reds sometimes get a bad rap in the nail polish world. I can understand why, there are many reds created that are not that interesting or unique. However, there are also plenty of amazing reds out there that are staples in many peoples nail stashes (i.e. China Glaze Ruby Pumps). Reds to me never screamed out to be a summer color, but there are many reds out there that are perfect for summer. I'm going just post a few I think would look hot this season.

Wet n' Wild Red Tape

This definitely the most "red" polish I'll be posting today. It is a bright warm red creme. It is definitely a stand out color.

Rimmel Hot Rock

This is a red-orange jelly-like color with gold glass fleck glitter throughout. This is a very shimmery red.

China Glaze Mediterranean Charm

This is a bright pink-toned red creme. This is probably my go-to polish. It isn't my favorite, but it is that color I go to when I'm not sure what I want to wear. I think it goes great with anything.

Zoya Elke

-Drools- Elke is a pink-toned red with gold shimmer throughout. This is probably my favorite nail polish of all time tied with China Glaze Strawberry Fields. I can see why this looks like a red version of Strawberry Fields. This color is stunning! I wish Zoya would rename this color Stephanie instead of their current Stephanie which is pale sheer color :P.

Off topic side note: Have you all noticed there are A LOT of nail bloggers named Stephanie? I've come across a ton since blogging!

That's all for today. I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Purple Passion Part 1

Before I get into my post. I wanted to let you know I posted another poll on my sidebar. I'll probably be doing a small summer giveaway (5-6) polishes at the beginning of June. I'm interested in knowing what type of polishes you all would want. Whichever one wins that will be what I'll be giving away!

Lately I've been really into purples! Before blogging I convinced myself that blue-toned purples or any cool colors didn't look good on me so I stopped wearing them. I was so wrong since blogging I've discovered that many of these colors do look good on me and if they don't and I like them well screw it! Anyways here are some purples I'm into now! I hope you enjoy them!

China Glaze IDK is a light purple holographic. I love holos and this is definitely a fun polish!

China Glaze Spontaneous is a medium purple creme. I'm really into cremes right now so this right up my alley!

Rimmel Night Before is a dark blurple with gold shimmer throughout! This is luxurious color.

OPI Funky Dunkey is a bright med-dark purple creme. This is a funky color that I've been sporting the past few days!

What colors are you into now? I'll be back with more purples tomorrow!

Have a great Monday!
