Sinful Colors So Daupe + Chit Chat

I find myself more and more drawn to the drugstore and mainstream polishes these days. That's the opposite of what everyone else I know into nail polish is drawn to. I'm in the process of putting all of my energy into a new career path which has a blogging aspect (are you following The Fulfilled Feline?). I don't really have the time or energy anymore to be on top of the indie world, it was hard enough in the first place! I have the desire to simplify my nail polish hobby.

I find myself lately going back to my original nail polish roots and enjoying shopping the drugstore for nail polish. That's how I fell in love with polish was through leisurely shopping trips to the drugstore or Ulta. It was stress-free and easy going. I need more of that now especially as I put a majority of my energy into something else. Nail polish needs to be a 100% leisurely outlet for me at this time in my life. That doesn't mean I'll never post an indie again. If I see some that strike my fancy, of course, I'm game and I know I'll never go off KBShimmer. Right now, I really just want to enjoy nail polish at my pace and work it around my life which means I'll probably be posting more mainstreams and drugstore polishes.

Thankfully, I'm really into what mainstreams and drugstores are producing these days. It's very limited in the drugstore, but Sinful Colors has been great at putting out new colors on a seasonal basis. I came across this early 2017 release the other day and I needed it. It's a neutral, of course, I needed it. I love neutrals!

So Daupe

So Daupe is a soft grayish-brownish-purplish creme.

Collection: Sinful Colors Core 2017

Color: You know I love colors like this and I think it's the first time in my nail polish history that I really stuck to a color family for so long. I'm probably wearing a color like this a few times a month and have been for several months. A color like this is so clean and chic and I love how it goes with everything.

Formula: This had a nice and easy to use formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: This is a great everyday elegant taupe-y shade. It's so wearable and I think it would be flattering on a variety of skin tones. The formula is great and you can't beat that $1.99 price!

Sinful Colors apPEAsing

Tis the season for mint green! I definitely consider this time of year mint green season. I know you can wear any color any time of year, but I'm someone who gravitates toward seasonal colors so mint greens are really appealing and "apPEAsing" for me right now. I have new Sinful Colors for 2017 mint green to share with you today that's called "apPEAsing". I see they were trying to get some green thing in the name, but it is rather silly don't you think?

apPEAsing
apPEAsing is a bright mint green creme.

Collection: Sinful Colors Core 2017

Color: I know mint greens are a dime a dozen, but it's one of those colors I just can't get enough of. I like this one because it has a brightness to it and it veers more to the green side than blue. I know those are harder to come by. This is a great mint!

Formula: This had a fairly nice formula. It was streaky on the first coat and was opaque by the second. I do find I still see some streakiness and unevennesses on some nails even with 2 coats, but it's not the big of a deal.

Price: I purchased this for $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: This is an all around great mint green creme. It's bright and refreshing. The formula isn't perfect, but it's $1.99. I can't complain too much.

Sinful Colors Tempest

Sinful Colors is known for repromotes. It's one of my biggest gripes with the brand, but I'm going to eat my words a bit today. I always see Tempest. Every year they put it some display as if it's some brand new polish. It's not. It's been around for ages. Despite it being around for ages and me griping I never ever purchased it until now. It's actually a pretty purple and I always just bypassed it because it's just always been there. I decided to give it a chance.

Tempest
Tempest is a bright lavender creme.

Color: I love the brightness of this color. There are tons of lavender cremes out there. I'm well aware, but I like how this one isn't so pale. It has this nice pop to it. I love lavender cremes.

Formula: This had a very nice formula. I used 2 coats above. It was smooth and easy to apply.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: Yes, it's been around forever and it's a lavender creme. They're a dime a dozen, but for the price, this is a nice color. I love the vibrancy of this lavender and it had a really nice formula. If you're not someone with 1000+ bottles of nail polish and want a shade like this don't spend your money on pricier ones this one will suffice!

Sinful Colors Gotta Terra Cotta

As well all know the drugstore has been desperately lacking in good nail polish lately. I say lately, but it's more like that past 3 years 😖. Well, I found something interesting this past week from Sinful Colors. I found glass fleck polishes. I haven't seen true glass fleck polishes in so long. They came from the limited edition Stoned Crystal Shimmer polishes. They're not shimmers, they're glass flecks! Here is one of the few I picked up!

Gotta Terra Cotta
Gotta Terra Cotta is a dusty rosy brown with a translucent glass fleck glitter.

Collection: Sinful Colors Stoned Crystal Shimmer 2017

Color: You know why I like this color besides the glass fleck? Yep. It's a nude color. I love when nude shades like this have something special thrown into the mix. This is a great muted shade and I love all of that glass fleck glitter!

Formula: This had a nice and easy to use formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: I purchased this at Walgreens for $1.99.

Overall: This really gives me hope for drugstore polish at least for Sinful Colors. This is a really unique finish to see in nail polish much less the drugstore. I love the softness of this color and appreciate the added glass flecks to liven it up a bit. You can't beat the $1.99 price either!

Sinful Colors Sleigh Me

It's getting harder and harder to find seasonal nail polish in the drugstore. I know I say this often, but it's the truth and it stinks! I did find Sinful Colors Holiday 2016 collection recently and out of the several offerings, there was only one that stood out to me as something different. Whomp whomp whomp. This is getting old! I would like some cool drugstore stuff again, please.

Sleigh Me
Sleigh Me is a medium plum jelly base with purple-pink glass fleck glitter.

Collection: Sinful Colors Holiday 2016

Color: This is disappointing. I do like the color of this itself. It's a pretty red-toned purple shade, but that glass fleck glitter is just drowning in that base color. It's hard to see and it really needed to be amped up to make an impact. I do feel a lot of the issues with this polish are due to the formula.

Formula: Weird formula. It seems to me like the purple pigment and base are not well mixed. They glass fleck glitter either there isn't enough of it, or it's just not well blended either. Something is just funky in the formula where nothing is combined properly. It applied well enough, but it was sheer in some spots even after 3 coats.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: This is a polish fail to me. This had all the elements of making a unique and interesting polish, but it isn't well made. The ingredients in this polish just don't mesh together well, and it's obvious. This seems like shotty work for Sinful Colors. Despite their affordable price they're certainly capable of a better quality product.

Sinful Colors Prosecco

I think I may be the last nail polish addict to actually get this Sinful Colors polish. I know this polish was on everyone's radar well over a year ago. I liked the color but never got around to really getting it. I finally got it last week. I spotted it at Walgreens recently and decided to take the plunge.

Prosecco
Processo is a soft taupe filled with a golden shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors SinfulShine

Color: This is definitely my kind of color. As many of you know I've been on a nude/neutral polish kick and have been accumulating many colors like Processo. This one is a nice addition. I love this soft shade and we all know it's about that gorgeous shimmer!

Formula: This had an excellent and smooth formula. I used 2 coats.

Price: I purchased this from Walgreens for $2.98.

Overall: This is a great neutral color that has a beautiful shimmer. I get why everyone loved this shade. It's very flattering, unique for a drugstore color, and with a drugstore price! I don't have complaints.

Sinful Colors Where Oh Werewolf?

I guess it's only Sinful Colors we can really rely on these days for drugstore nail polish. Most of their collections are repromotes or repeats, but they do throw a new shade here and there on occasion. One of the new shades I spotted in their Halloween collection recently was this Walgreens exclusive.

Where Oh Werewolf?
Where Oh Werewolf is a medium gray with a silvery glass fleck shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Halloween 2016 Walgreens Exclusive

Color: This a very saturated and creamy gray base color. I love the opacity of this gray and I adore this glass fleck shimmer. It really pairs nicely with this color and gives it some interest.

Formula: I had my doubts before I even opened this bottle. I thought this was going to be a sheer color that needed 5 coats to look right or would have to be layered. I was wrong. This is a very opaque color. The formula on this was phenomenal especially considering the price tag. I used 2 coats.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: This is a winning polish for me. It ticks all the boxes of great polish and the best part is the price. It's hard to find polishes with this type of shimmer and formulated so nicely for only $1.99. This could easily be a $9-$10 indie. Its polishes like these that give me hope that drugstores and mainstream brands might start to reignite themselves. I truly miss being able to shop in store for great nail polish and find them at a great price. This one is a keeper!

Sinful Colors Nice Guise

Sinful Colors notoriously has good Halloween and holiday collections. Sinful Colors is pretty much the only brand in the drugstore these days creating interesting nail polish even that is few and far between. I was happy to spot some cool colors in their recent Halloween collection. This one caught my eye.

Nice Guise
Nice Guise is a deep blue jelly with green, blue, and gold glass fleck glitters.

Collection: Sinful Colors Halloween 2016

Color: This is an impressive color for Sinful Colors! This color is rich, deep, but still vibrant. What I was worried about was that this color being dark would look black on the nails. Nope, this is definitely blue and that sparkle pops!

Formula: This had a great formula. It was easy to use and applied nicely. I used 2 coats here.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: Great polish by Sinful Colors! The color is great and interesting. The formula is good and it's only $1.99!

Sinful Colors Couture For Sure

I think the only time we are going to even have a possibility of having anything interesting at the drugstore is going to be during the fall/holiday season. I was happy to see some new eye-catching Sinful Colors polishes recently with their Fashion Flash Luxe Glitters collection. I picked up a few of those including this purple.

Couture For Sure (over a purple creme)
Couture For Sure is a sheer violet with pinky-violet shimmer and purple flakes.

Collection: Fashion Flash Luxe Glitters Fall 2016

Color: What caught my eye with this color was the shimmer. I love when purples have an intense shimmer and this one has it. I also love the addition of flakes. It's cool combination especially for a drugstore polish at this price point.

Formula: This collection I found I preferred layered, which I know these days isn't the ideal. These on their own are buildable, but they don't build up completely opaque and the more layers the clumpier it gets with the flakes. I layered 2 coats of this over a dark purple creme and I do really like the look of it this way. It's so much richer than on its own. The formula itself was easy to use and spread out evenly on the nail.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: I think this is a nice attempt from Sinful Colors. It's not the greatest on its own and for it to look its best it does need a backdrop. I'm not disappointed and I do like it, but thinking of what people's expectations these days I don't think everyone will be satisfied. For $1.99 and it being the only drugstore brand to reach outside the box these days I'm satisfied.

Sinful Colors Kylie Collection Slay Grey

Oy vey. I didn't realize how involved this Kylie Jenner Sinful Colors collection went. There many sub collections of mattes and other stuff, that honestly I couldn't tell you everything. I don't even know. I *think* Slay Grey is part of the Precious Metals & Crown Jewels part of the collection that is then part of the Sinful Shine Gel Tech line. Are you confused yet? So am I.

I can't say I'm a fan of Kylie Jenner or anything Kardashian/Jenner for that matter. I give kudos to this family for knowing how to rake in the dough, I bought into it buying this color. That's about where the compliments end though. Materialistic stuff, fashion, luxury just isn't my thing. I have 4 pairs of shoes, 2 handbags I rotate between, and I live in jeans and t-shirts. I'm a very simple person. Any other simple jeans and t-shirt people out there?

Back to nail polish!

Slay Grey
Slay Grey is a soft grey with golden/green glass fleck shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Gel Tech Kylie King Precious Metals & Crown Jewels Collection 2016. Haha, try saying that a few times in a row.

Color: I adore Slay Grey, despite the cringey name. This is a soft neutral flattering shade with a gorgeous glass fleck shimmer. I adore this and I will give Kylie or whoever made this for Kylie credit for using a glass fleck shimmer with this. I miss glass fleck shimmers!

Formula: Excellent formula. I found this formula very smooth and so easy to apply. I used 2 coats.

Price: I believe I paid $2.99 for this at Big Lots, but I've also seen it at Walgreens.

Overall: Kylie and her Kardashian/Jenner clan can have all the money and glam, but I'm happy with this pretty nail polish. The color is stunning and I'm all about that glass fleck shimmer. The formula is on point and the price is great. Kylie just might make it as a contender in my Top 25 of 2016 polish list.

Sinful Colors Hit The Dance Glow

I never came across Sinful Colors Bling It On collection, but I heard a lot of great things about it. Thankfully, a local friend stumbled across it and picked up some colors for me. This collection consisted of a bunch of colors with cool shimmers, flakies, and glitters. I have Hit The Dance Glow to show you today.

Hit The Dance Glow
Hit The Dance Glow is a sheer fuchsia jelly mixed with iridescent glitter, blue/purple iridescent flakies, and a blue flash shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Bling It On Fall 2015

Color: I do not see nail polishes like this made much anymore. I remember fuchsia paired with that blue flash shimmer were popular in the 90's. I think that's the only type of color my aunt wore! Anyways, this is updated. It has a jelly finish and I love all those fun glittery elements. It has a cool effect that is glowy and shimmery.

Formula: This applied easily and smoothly. The problem with this is it's very sheer. I used 4 coats above and it still isn't as rich of color as it is seen in the bottle. I tried layering it and I found that a lot of the sparkly fun bits in there do get lost on the nail over a base color. This is a lot of coats, but still doable for me as 3 coats is usually my max. A 4th isn't going to be dealbreaker for me, just more than expected.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens. I don't think this collection around anymore though.

Overall: I like Hit The Dance Glow. Yes, it's not a perfect polish, but it does have some unique yet nostalgic properties that makes me like it. It's definitely not a type of polish I'm used to seeing this days which is nice for a change.

Third Week Throwbacks: Sinful Colors Zeus

I'm going to keep on with the shimmer theme because I have another great oldie shimmer to share with you today. This one is from a Sinful Colors spring collection 4 years back. What's interesting is this is a color we saw variations a lot of that spring/summer. Shimmers were a trend in the spring/summer of 2012.

Zeus
Zeus is a medium muted lavender with a glowing pink-purple shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Cast Away Collection Spring 2012

Color: They don't make them like this anymore. This is a beautiful muted lavender color with a gorgeous shimmer. I hear a lot of complaints this spring about the redundant pastel offerings and how people want more shimmer. This is the type of colors I think us nail polish addicts want again. They're a different take on the spring palette. The colors are still soft, but offer some unique beauty with the shimmer.

Formula: This has an excellent easy to use formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This was $2 at the time, but since this was a limited edition collection, it's no longer available. There were a few other purples from this season in the same vein, but by no means dupes. OPI Dutch Ya' Just Love OPI?, Essie She's Picture Perfect, Zoya Tru, and Zoya Lotus were all purples with shimmers in Spring 2012 that are probably easier to find.

Overall: I love this purple shimmer. It's the perfect polish for spring and definitely has me longing for different spring palette than we've been offered the past few years. I love the glowing shimmer and the softness of this color. I especially love this was a drugstore offering. I can't recall the last time I saw a new drugstore nail polish with shimmer in the past 2-3 years. It's all been-there-done-that cremes.

Sinful Colors Star Studded

I have another Sinful Colors from the same holiday collection to share with you today. This one caught my eye because it looked like a starry bling city. I can't pass up stars, shimmer, and more glitter. This one is also new to the line. I have not had great success with Sinful Colors glitter toppers in the past, but will this one be the exception?

Star Studded (over Zoya Ryan)
Star Studded is a mix of a golden shimmer, gold hex glitter, silver hex glitters, and silver stars in a clear base.

Collection: Sinful Colors Holiday 2015

Color: Look at that in the bottle? It's stunning, it's shimmery, glittering, and looks like a magical starry dreamland. That being said, you're about to hear me say something I didn't think I'd ever say about nail polish. I think this is just a bit too much glitter and shimmer. This is so reflective it doesn't translate clearly on the nail as you can see. It's lovely, don't get me wrong, but I think they could of 86'd the shimmer and just kept it straight glitter.

Formula: I will say unlike many other Sinful Colors glitter toppers this one applied well and easily. This isn't a sparse glitter nor did I have any issue getting the stars out.

Price: $1.99 at Walgreens

Overall: This is so eye catching and beautiful in the bottle.  I don't hate how this looks on the nail, but there is just too much going on it that it doesn't have a clean look. It looks muddled, and it's really a shame. It's still pretty, but this polish could of be edited a bit.

Sinful Colors Velvet Ribbon

I've been griping about drugstore not having any cool stuff much less cool holiday stuff for months now. Well, I stand corrected. Sinful Colors pulled through for me a little bit this year and released a few holiday colors that caught my eye. I was shocked because while I like Sinful Colors, they don't always standout as unique to me in this day and age. Plus, they have so many re-promotes I never know if something is really new or not. This color is new though!

Velvet Ribbon
Velvet Ribbon is a red foil metallic with gold shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Holiday 2015

Color: Well all be, I haven't seen a true foil polish in a long time! Foils are one of my favorite finishes too. This one is excellent! This is the perfect Christmas red and that gold shimmer blended in gives this beautiful shiny finish. This looks like shiny Christmas wrapping paper. No brushstrokes with this one which makes it a true foil, it's all made up of lots of fine shiny particles.

Formula: Excellent 2 coat formula. This applies so smoothly and opaquely.

Price: $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: Perfect holiday red polish.! I love that this a foil. I haven't seen foils done much less done well in nail polish in a couple of years. This is beautiful, vibrant, and oh so shiny. Way to go Sinful Colors! I'm a happy camper!

Sinful Colors High Spirits

I realized how out of touch I was with drugstore polishes recently when I went to Walgreens. I just haven't bothered looking at nail polish much lately because nothing really stood out to me. I did spot some of the Sinful Colors Halloween displays on a recent trip and a few caught my eye. This is one of the colors I picked up.

High Spirits
High Spirits is a rich plum creme.

Collection: Sinful Colors Halloween 2015

Color: I know purple cremes are not very original. I'm sure this is dupeable, but this is a color that I didn't have in my stash. I love this plum shade. It's not too dark at all, and definitely reads as purple on the nail. I love this color, it's perfect for fall or winter.

Formula: This formula was nice and easy to use. I used 2 coats.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walgreens.

Overall: All around great purple creme. I love the color. The formula is great. Sinful Colors is a great go-to brand to look for cremes that you may not have in your stash. They have a great range and at an awesome price. You can''t go wrong with this color.

Sinful Colors Zest of Times

I feel like the past month I've been catching up on nail polish. I have barely purchased any nail polish this first part of the year. It hasn't been because I haven't wanted to, it's just I had not got around to it. I've probably purchased 30 bottles the past month, and I'm still not caught up on spring collections. They'll have to wait until my wallet is a little fuller though! I did pick up this newer Sinful Colors pretty in that little haul.

Zest of Times over Sinful Colors Cream Pink
Zest of Times is a sheer hot pink jelly base with a sparkling pinky-purple glass fleck shimmer.

Collection. Sinful Colors Citrus Twist Spring 2015

Color: I love the vibrancy and sparkle of Zest of Times. I think it's a great summery sparkle shade, I just wish it wasn't so sheer.

Formula: This is sheer, It is meant to be layered, but I wish it had an option of building it up easily on its own. I've seen other bloggers do it and say it takes 4 to 4+ coats. I didn't find this build up opaquely on my nail, and the more coats I added the more fussy the formula got. The formula started to get thick and drag and smudge on the nail. Not nice. That being said, this layered looks great. I can't entirely fault this polish since it is a layering one.

Price: I paid $2 for this at Walgreens.

Overall: I do like Zest of the Times for it's color, and I think it looks great layered over a base. It has excellent sparkle that isn't subtle at all. My only complaint is more of a personal one. I do wish I could wear this one on its own easily in 3 coats. I love seeing glass fleck glitter/shimmers on the market again, and this would of been nice if it could be worn by itself.

Throwback Thursday: Sinful Colors Gogo Girl

You can never go wrong with a bright cherry red polish. What is even better is a bright cherry red polish that is $2. I have had this Sinful Colors polish in my collection since 2011, and it's been staple ever since.

Gogo Girl
Gogo Girl is a bright true cherry red crelly.

Color: This is pretty self explanatory. If you're looking for that reto bright red creme, you need to look no further than Gogo Girl.

Formula: This has a nice 3 coat formula. I call this a crelly because it's not quite jelly and not quite a creme. It's a nice mix of the two. I love the finish of this polish.

Price: This is $1.99 at Walgreens. I'm *pretty* sure this is part of the permanent collection. I got this in 2011, but I've seen it around since.

Overall: Gorgeous classic red color. The formula and finish are great, and the price is hard to beat!
