Pure Ice Fairytale Forest

I have the last of the Pure Ice Fairytale Forest polishes to share with you today. This was collection that was released early in December. The collection was limited edition, but there could be a few stragglers hanging out in a Pure Ice display. I adored this collection. I thought it was unique for a drugstore price collection especially in a time when drugstore/mainstream polish is waning in appeal. This color however, I think was a dud in the collection and I'm peeved at how they made this one!

Fairytale Forest
Fairytale Forest is a steely frosty blue shimmer.

Collection: Pure Ice Fairytale Forest Winter 2016

Color: I can't. I can't. I can't. If you recall from my other reviews of this collection (Tales Untold, Precious Jewel, and True Love's Kiss), these were pastel cremes with beautiful glass fleck golden shimmer. Well, that beautiful glass fleck golden shimmer is in this color too. You just can't see it because instead of a creme polish they paired it with this frosty shimmer blue crap. In person, you can see that gold shimmer in the bottle, but on the nail it's completely covered up by this atrocious blue frost of sadness. The color isn't bad, but it doesn't fit the collection and it's just not a nice finish much less a modern finish.

Formula: The formula applies nicely. I used 2 coats here.

Price: This was $1.99 at Walmart. I can't fault the price.

Overall: Why?!?!? I almost feel like I can't fault it because everything else in the collection was great. It was a unique collection at $1.99 a pop. This color just doesn't make sense and I don't know why they thought this would look nice? Why bother putting that same shimmer in this color but use a frost? Frost polishes do not pair well with glitter or shimmer. The frost will always overpower those elements. It's stupid a amateur nail polish mistake that I'm clearly overly upset about. I'll get over it, but come on now. No more frost polishes of sadness please.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes

*Be forewarned--I'm sharing my own candid experience below.

There is nothing more infuriating than spending a lot of money on something you don't like. I've had almost 5 years of experience with nail polish. I have probably over 1,200 bottles. I know my nail polish. I know what I like. I know what's worth the money. I know what is good and what is bad. When I buy something that sucks, and throw down too much money for it, it makes me feel like a complete donkeys behind. I should of know better, and that's what makes me not like this polish even more.

Deborah Lippmann Mermaid's Eyes
Mermaid's Eyes is a frosty light blue with gold micro-glitter, and blue sequined glitter.

Color: This overly frosted blue has completely drowned out all the other beautiful aspects of this polish. Where is the gold micro glitter and blue sequined glitter? Oh, it's just hiding behind Mimi from The Drew Carey Show's eyeshadow. The color of this polish isn't ugly, but they ruined it by making it a frosty mess. Worst of all, I should of been smart enough to realize this based on how it looked in the bottle.

Formula: The formula on this applies nicely and smoothly. I'll give it that!

Price: I got this for $19.00 at Nordstroms. $19.00 I could of spent buying 2-3 other nail polishes, a nice dinner, personalized Mickey Mouse ears, or 2 hamsters from the pet store. I can think of countless other things I would of preferred! If I had paid $8.00 I still wouldn't have liked it, but would of been able to blow it off. $19.00 is just a hard pill to swallow.

Overall: I will say some of you will like this. I've read reviews where people like this.  If this had been like the other mermaid polishes in this collection where the base didn't overshadow the details I would of liked it too. I just don't do blue frosty messes for $19.00. I'm sorry. You lose! Good day sir!

Sally Hansen Whisper

* I have created a personal blog. This blog will be for me talk about anything and everything. I will not update frequently, just when the mood strikes. If you'd like to follow feel free

Have you ever found polish that represents everything you hate about a nail polish color, but you end up loving it? This i show I feel about this next polish. I saw the Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect line a few times and was intrigued by the soft colors. I ended up picking up Whisper because in the store it looked like a soft lilac creme. It was not until I got home that I realized it wasn't a creme, but a shimmer. I instantly thought I'm going to hate this, but I really don't.

Whisper

Whisper is a pale lilac frosty/pearlized shimmer.

Yeah, I'm not sure how to describe it. Based on Lacqurzied's guide, I'm going to go with a pearl, but since that is a lesser known finish I think frost would suffice as well. First of all I really hate frosts, and I do not have a lot of luck with paler shades. This has all the components to be a polish fail for me, but I really do like it. I like the softness of it. It is subdued, and I think it comes off more as one of those clean sheer pink and nude type colors than an obnoxious frost? At least it does in my book. I'm sure this color wouldn't be popular among many polish fans, but it scored a point in my book.

Happy Thursday!

Disney Princess Designer Nail Polish Part 2

If you did not see yesterday's post, please check it out!

Here is the other half of the Disney Princess polishes.

Ariel
Ariel is a medium blue intense shimmer.

Rapunzel

Rapunzel is a plum metallic foil.

Belle

Belle is a warm gold metallic foil.

Tiana

Tiana is a pale sea foam green pearl-frost.

Pocahontas

Pocahontas is a bronze metallic foil.

I have the same sentiments as last time. These are not unique colors at all, but I really adore this set. It kills me that Tiana is such a frosty color! Blech. What they did do a good job of here is giving you a great selection of finishes. We have sheer/jelly, frost, glitter, holographic glitter, shimmer, & foil. The only prominent exclusion would be creme, but honestly when I think of Disney and Disney Princess creme probably isn't as "magical" of a finish.

I didn't have any noticeable application problems with these. They were average, I think they all had solid coverage with 3 coats with the exception of Cinderella. The best pigmentation wise were definitely the foil ones like Pocahontas as Rapunzel. What I did notice is that these dried super fast. I know that's probably not make or break it information when it comes to buying these polishes, but it was an interesting discovery.

My favorite? I think as far as color/pigmentation I'd say Ariel, Mulan, & Rapunzel. Who is my favorite Disney princess? Ariel of course!

What is your favorite among these polishes and who is your favorite Disney princess?

Disney Princess Designer Nail Polish Part 1

One of my favorite things outside of nail polish is Disney. When Tierney of Tier's Thoughts tweeted about Disney Princess Designer Nail Polish on the Disney Store website. I didn't even have to think twice. I instantly bought these! I couldn't pass up on combination of my two favorite things.

The Disney Designer Nail Polish set consists of 10 nail polish colors named after 10 of Disney's princesses; Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, and Pocahontas. The entire set is $24.50. The bottle sizes are small and only .2ml.

This is the box they come in. I don't know why but Cinderella and Aurora look exactly the same, as far as their pictures! All the swatches below are 3 coats.

Mulan

Mulan is a pale sheer build-able pink.

Jasmine
Jasmine is a frosty teal.

Snow White

Snow White is red glitter in a clear base.

Cinderella

Cinderella is a silver holographic glitter in clear base.

Aurora

Aurora is a magenta with blue-violet shimmer flash.

These colors are far from imaginative and unique. They're predictable and nothing we haven't seen before. I'm not surprised, but I'm not disappointed either. I love this set, just based on the fact I love Disney Princesses and nail polish. It's neat to have Disney Princess themed polish. Obviously, if you're not a fan, then I don't see any reason to get these. I do think if you have child who loves Disney Princesses this would be an awesome stocking stuffer or holiday gift for them. If you are a fan though, I think you'll enjoy having this set in your collection!

I'll have part 2 tomorrow with Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle, Tiana, & Pocahontas!

Happy Tuesday!

China Glaze Emotion

A little while ago while purging my stash for my blog sale I came across this China Glaze color. I was tempted to put it in the purge pile, but I decided not to. This color has one of the characteristics of a polish I hate. It's frosty. I can't help but love this one though. I think sometimes frosts can be nice, if they're paired with the right color. At least for me, in this case I approve this frost! Plus, I think I have some attachment to it, because it was one of the first polishes I bought when I got into nail polish.

Emotion
Emotion is a warm shimmery metallic pink.

This was from the spring Romantique 2009 collection. It's funny how that was only 2 years ago, but in nail polish years 2 years might as well be 10. I actually love the finish on it. It almost looks chrome. I also love the vibrancy of this pink too. It's not your typical dated pale pink frost. This pink definitely has some depth and punch to it! All in all, I really like this color. I think it will stay in my stash. :)

Happy Monday!

Color Club Masquerading

I have to be honest Color Club is a brand that is very hit/miss & love/hate for me. Color Club has produced one of my all time favorite colors Pucci-licious. However, I've been disappointed big time, by a lot of their shades and formulation. This inconsistency makes it hard for me to really feel anything more than "meh" about them overall. I do however, like this shade from the Alter Ego collection.

Masquerading
Masquerading is a smoky teal frost/chrome.

I know frost is not the most welcomed word in nail polishes these days. Honestly, when it comes to your typical non-original colors, I get it. It's not the most flattering of finishes. However, when it comes to unique and original colors I actually really like the frost finish. I also really like it because it's not shade that I'd typically like. I'm really pleasantly surprised by this color. It reminds me of the color of black pearls. :)

It also gets this song in my head. I like the Carpenters version.

Is there nail polish brand you have a love/hate relationship with? Why?

Happy Tuesday!

Jordana Purple Glam--My Nail Polish Pet Peeve

I've come to the conclusion that I have a nail polish pet peeve. There are few things about polishes that irritate me.... too thin formula, too thick formula, long drying time, and etc. That's part of the game, so I can manage, but colors like the following really tick me off. They seem like cop outs.

Jordana Purple Glam

Purple Glam is a purple frosty shimmer with holographic glitter and holographic bar glitter.

This is probably very picky, but this formula is crap. It's patchy and inconsistent, but what I hate most is they've taken an already ugly color (thanks to the frosty finish) and loaded it with glitter as if that makes it look better. No, fail. This is a gritty ugly mess. You cannot save ugly frosty colors by adding glitter. I believe some Sally Hansen Xtreme Wears this past fall attempted to do the same thing. It just looks like they got lazy and couldn't figure out how to save a color, so they threw some glitter in it.

I know you're thinking, why did you buy this then? Well, in the bottle I just saw glitter. Glitter has some power of me, so I'm drawn to it. As that famous saying goes "all that glitters is not gold". I think this is the situation here. Oh well.

Before I go..you must feast your eyes on this insane amount of cuteness!
I saw this picture online last night, and I've become obsessed with how freaking cute it is. If you're having a bad day this picture brings instant happiness!

Happy Tuesday!

Essence Caribbean Sea

You know what I hate about nail polish shopping? There are just so many choices it's impossible to pick out things you want if you not looking for something in particular. I went to Sally's today and there is a wall of polish, and if I could I'd buy it all. I can't buy it all, so most of the time I leave empty handed because making a decision is too hard! Anyone else experience this?

Anyways on to pretty polish. I got this Essence polish in a blog sale. It's a pedicure polish since it says "Show Your Feet" on the bottle, but I'm sure most of don't follow rules in the nail world. I do think this would make an excellent pedicure polish though. It can go either way!

Caribbean Sea
Caribbean Sea is a turquoise/aqua frosty shimmer.

This practically glows! I know the word "frost" isn't a very popular one in the nail polish world. Frosty finishes are said to be dated. I can agree to some degree. I think a frosty pink, mauve, or nude probably fit this "outdated" category. I think a frost finish with a vibrant color or an uncommon color actually can be very beautiful, like with Caribbean Sea. This is just my opinion, but a frost done right, for instance with many of the China Glaze Vintage Vixen colors is all good in my book!

Happy Saturday!

Confetti Debutante

I've had a love/hate relationship with Confetti, but since I heard there was some issues with this brand getting a restraining order/sued I don't know the legal jargon, I decided to grab some more. The color I got was Debutante. Let me just say I probably would of been better off not purchasing this one, but you can doctor things up, right?

Debutante

Debutante is a sandy gold frosty metallic, Blech,  I don't really care for this at all. I could tell I wouldn't care for it either when I picked up the bottle. Also, like some other Confetti polishes the brush on this was wonky and deformed. I guess I picked it up because I figured I could do something with it. I figured it may work for a funky Christmas manicure...

Here is Debutante with Revlon Slipper and Eva Green Hex Glitter layered over it. Meh, I'm not sure if this is cute or looks like Santa Claus and his elves threw up on my nails? I'll leave the up to you all to decide. I kind of like it, but if I were do that I think I'd do it on my ring finger only and paint the rest green or red. I think as full mani this would be a bit too much for me personally.

So, what do you think? Cute or ridiculous? It won't hurt my feelings. :P

Happy Wednesday!

China Glaze Hey Doll

Reminder: Sinful Colors are on sale this week at Walgreens for 99 cents each!

I only picked up a few colors from the China Glaze Vintage Vixen collection. At first I wasn't really impressed, but over time I'm growing rather fond of the colors. I may be doing another haul of them soon. One of the colors I picked up the first time was "Hey Doll"

Hey Doll
I'd call Hey Doll a rusty rose with silvery metallic frost. Personally I really love this color. I've read many other unfavorable reviews about this color. It seems to be one of the colors in the collection that gets put back on the back burner. To each their own, but I really like it. I like the fact that it reads almost as neutral with a hint of pink. I think this would be wearable with any color outfit. If you're ever looking for a polish that maybe more subdued, but you don't want to go as safe as nude or sheer, I think Hey Doll would be a great way to go. It has a nice hint of color with metallic finish.

I also really like that this a fall pink color. I noticed when doing my "Fall Favorites" post I didn't have many fall-like pinks. I'm wondering if that's just me or if pink really isn't a color that translate well into fall. While looking through Zoya, OPI, and Color Club  fall collections there are not any pinks in them. There are berries and purples, but no pinks or variations of pinks. I'm wondering if that's because more fall like pinks  come off as more mature since they tend to be dusty roses or mauve. Hmph. I know those colors are not the most appealing, which maybe why Hey Doll isn't getting too much attention. Oh well,  I like it! :P

Can anyone think of some fall-like pinks that you like?

Happy Sunday!

China Glaze Adore & It's been 3 months...

Today maybe a bit of chatty post, but first I wanted to show you China Glaze Adore!

Adore is a frosty metallic teal. In many cases I am not fond of frosty colors, but this being a teal and unique color makes it beautiful color in my eyes. This came out in the Spring 09 Romantique Collection. You can still find these shades avaliable for purchase on Head2Toe Beauty.

Now on to the chatter!

3 months ago from today I started this blog. I know it's probably silly for me to even mention that, it's only been 3 months! I could of never imagined back then that I would receive all the wonderful comments and great followers I have. I was the type of person who start a journal or a blog when I was younger and make one post and never return to it. This along with many other reasons was why I held off on starting a blog. I have been reading nail blogs since early 2009. I had an interest in blogging, but never thought anyone would read my blog muchless I'd be able to keep up with it. One day 3 months ago I spontaneously woke up and just said I'm going to start my blog today and I've blogged daily since!

This blog is very special to me. I named this blog Imperfectly Painted not only because I'm not the best at painting my nails, but as somewhat of indirect reminder to myself that there is nothing wrong with imperfection. I am a perfectionist in real life. I know there is no such thing as "perfect", but sometimes I give myself a hard time or stress myself out trying to achieve perfection. One of the few things I never felt I needed to be perfect about was nail polish, doing my nails, and now writing this blog. Nail polish is relaxing getaway and hobby for me. While writing this blog and sharing a bit of myself and my love for nail polish I've began to embrace imperfection in more areas of my life.

Finally the reason I posted "Adore", was because I adore all of you my readers. I know that sounds cheesy and corny, but I do geniunely mean this. I'm no Scrangie or Vampy Varnish, nor will I ever try to be (they are amazing bloggers by the way I just mean I'm not popular :P). I don't have thousands or followers or hundreds of comments, but I don't need to. I am so grateful and appreciative of the people who read this blog and the people who comment on my posts. I am so thankful to have found so many like-minded others out there who share in this fun hobby. I enjoy getting to know all of you and reading your blogs if you have them. Again, I thank you all for sharing in this journey and hobby with me!

OK, I know cheesy and silly to write since I've only been blogging for such a short time, but I do mean it all. :)

Happy Saturday!
