Once Upon a Polish: Scuttle

If you were not aware, The Little Mermaid is my absolute favorite Disney movie. In fact, outside of my nail polish collection I do have a bit of an Ariel collection. I love Ariel. I first saw that movie when I was 3, and I wore out my VHS tape of it along with my cassette tape of the music. Don't worry, they were quickly replaced. I can attribute my love for swimming to The Little Mermaid. I was a fast learner and great swimmer when I was a kid. I know at summer camp they always put me in the highest level of swimming lessons, while the other kids my age were in the lower levels. Thank you to The Little Mermaid I probably will never drown.

I'm rambling, back on the polish track. This is a polish from Once Upon a Polish. She released a handful of The Little Mermaid themed polishes. This one is Scuttle, and I must say she did a great job with it.

Scuttle

Scuttle is sheer, yet buildable light gray base with a mixture of white, black, and micro iridescent glitters.

I did notice this polish had these teeny tiny iridescent micro glitters. I thought that was a cool touch. This polish is really unique and fun. The gray base is great, it is on the sheer side, but I was able to build it up in 3-4 coats. It's certainly a polish I recommend you check out. It's very different than most indie polishes I've seen.

Here is some Scuttle for you too!

Scuttle is currently available on Once Upon a Polish's etsy site for $8.50

Once Upon a Polish: Queen of Hearts

Did you know yesterday was the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland? On July 4th 1862, Lewis Carroll first told this story to Alice Liddell his inspiration for Alice in Wonderland. The story was later published in 1865. It is certainly one of my favorite books! They celebrate the "Alice's Day" or the anniversary of Alice in Wonderland in Oxford, UK every year. I got to attend to Alice's Day back in the summer of 2007 when I visited England.

I must thank my friend across the pond for the reminder about the anniversary! I told them about how I was going to have an Alice themed post, and they wondered if it was coincidence or if I had remembered it was the anniversary. It was purely coincidence, but I'm glad I was reminded!

In honor of Alice in Wonderland I have an Alice themed polish for you today made by Once Upon a Polish.

Queen of Hearts over Milani White on the Spot and Sally Hansen Glass Slipper

Queen of Hearts is a mixture of red hearts, black hearts, large white hex glitters, medium hex gold, medium hex black, and small hex white glitters in a clear base.

I know that was a mouthful! I can officially say this has been added to my Top 20 of 2012 polish list. This glitter is awesome. I love the colors and the variety of glitters. Once Upon a Polish does an amazing job of capturing the essence of her polish ideas and putting them in a bottle. There is no doubt this is Queen of Hearts! I know Once Upon a Polish is on vacation, but make sure to bookmark her etsy store. I'm sure she'll have more goodies when she gets back.

Do you all have a favorite film version of Alice in Wonderland? Let me know in the comments. My favorite version is one from 1985. I believe they showed it on TV and it was done it two parts (Alice in Wonderland & Alice Through the Looking Glass). It had a bunch of famous stars from back in the day like Sammy Davis Jr., Carol Channing, Ringo Starr, Shelley Winters, and so on. It was filled with songs and was incredibly cheesy, but I love it to this day. I get the songs in my head all the time like this one....

Remember- Jam tomorrow jam yesterday, but never jam today!

If you want to read more on Alice's Day check out their site. If you're in the UK, and near Oxford it's taking place this weekend, so it maybe fun to check it out!

Once Upon a Polish: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

I have another Once Upon a Polish for you today! I saw this one a few months ago, and it sold out fast! I'm glad it was restocked, and I was able to pick it up. When I look at Once Upon a Polish's etsy shop, I see it is still in stock today.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs over Sation Hail to the Pink

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is a mix of shredded black glitter, black hex glitter, silver holo hex glitters, and white hex glitters in a clear base.

I love this glitter! I like the addition of the silver holo glitter and the shredded black glitter because it makes it unique against the other black and white glitters out there. This would look great layered over any color. It's very versatile. This is also easy to use. I always like to mention that because in the past glitters could be difficult to apply without really fishing for them. You will not have problems with this glitter!

Once Upon a Polish Dragon Spit

*I want to thank all of you who commented on my last post. It meant a lot to me, and helped me gain some peace of mind and a better perspective. I will be replying to all of you later today.*

I think I can officially declare that I have a favorite indie brand. My favorite indie brand is Once Upon a Polish. I love the originality of her polishes. The formulation on her polishes is superb. I think this is one of the reasons her polishes stand out to me. Her polishes are glitter bombs, and these apply so smoothly and easily. They are not clumpy at all. The other thing I really like Once Upon a Polish is Kimberly the creator. She is very kind, and answers questions/requests quickly.. I am all about service, when a seller goes out of their way to make a customer feel appreciated it means a lot! This is a polish I bought from her shop recently.

Dragon Spit over Zoya Arizona

Dragon Spit is a mix of holographic red, purple, blue, and orange small and large hex glitters and bar glitters in a clear base.

This polish is awesome! I love the color combination, and it definitely makes me think "dragon spit". It looks fiery! I'm not typically a bar glitter gal, but I think this works well with this polish. I think without it, the polish would definitely be incomplete. What I also like is you're not fishing for glitter at all. This just 2 coats of the polish, but with one you'll get great coverage. I wouldn't try to wear this alone, but for layering it's perfect. It gives a great effect!

Dragon Spit is not currently available, but Kimberly is good about restocking her polishes in a timely manner. She still has some other polishes available on her etsy shop. You should check out her Facebook page too where she updates everyone on her restocks.

Happy Thursday!

Once Upon a Polish- Day at the Fair

Have you ever seen a polish and think to yourself  "This reminds me exactly of ________", either some place, some person, or some memory? That is exactly what I thought when I saw Day at the Fair. It could not be more aptly named. This color reminds me of carousels, midway games, and cotton candy. That is one of the reasons I had to have it. Kimberly, the creator of Once Upon a Polish did a great job with not only making a pretty color, but giving it the perfect name.

Day at the Fair

Day at the fair is a soft pink with golden shimmer mixed with an assortment of large and small multicolored hex glitters.

Doesn't this just scream cotton candy? It takes me back to the State Fair of Texas, and to the midway at Circus Circus Las Vegas where my dad would win me stuffed animals on vacations growing up. This polish is soft and pretty, but has the perfect explosion of glitter in it to give a bit of whimsy. The formula was also nice on this one. It was smooth, and only needed 3 coats.

Once Upon a Polish can be found on etsy. Kimberly, is currently working on restocking, and is also working on a Little Mermaid collection. I'm so excited! You can see some of her previous offerings on the sales page. In the mean time, has some nail polish jewelry in stock. Kimberly is also very friendly and easy to communicate with. She made a full size version of this polish per my request. Thank you!

Happy Monday!
