Metallic color shifting flakies are my current jam. I swear once I'd seen it all in nail polish, these flakies came around. My favorite so far are hands down, KBShimmer's. I think those have the best formula and cover completely in 3 coats. You can see my review of those here.
Anyways, I've been having fun playing with flakies on different manis. I haven't forgot about those translucent flakies either like Essie Shine of the Times. This mani I did recently I used both types of flakies.
Polishes Used: Orly La Playa, topped with Essie Shine of the Times, with a KBShimmer Take the Punny and Run accent.
I've been really enjoying the metallic flakie polishes from the KBShimmer Summer 2015 collection. I think I've used them in almost every mani I've done for the past 3 weeks! This is one of the recent manis I did using Green Weaver.
Polishes Used: Color Club Age of Aquarius and KBShimmer Green Weaver
I love these polishes together so much. I love how some of the hints of green in Green Weaver match the green shade in Age of Aquarius. These colors really compliment each other well and made for a fun mani.
I'm discovering one of my favorite color combinations in spring is pastel shades with gold. I love the combination of soft and rich. I recently did a manicure using both of these elements I love.
Polishes Used: China Glaze Tart-y for the Party, Midnight Kiss, and Sally Hansen Big Money
Mani Description: I did 2 accent nails with this mani. The middle finger I just used Sally Hansen big Money layered over China Glaze Tart-y for the Party. On the ring finger I did a base of Tart-y for the Party and did the saran wrap technique over that using China Glaze Midnight Kiss.
I'm going to declare it. Spring and summer are my favorite seasons for nail polish. I'm sure I'll say the exact opposite come September in October, but for right now I just love brights, pastels, and neons. I can't get enough. One of my favorite colors this time of year is mint. I love anything in that mint, soft green, and pale green family. This was a color I used to avoid at all costs thinking it looked bad on me, but I've been reformed.
Here is a fun mani I did recently.
Polishes Used: OPI Feel the Moe-heat-oes with Krafty Gurl Mambo in Miami
I really like this mani. It's hard for me not to think of the Golden Girls with these colors. I wouldn't be surprised if Blanche Devereaux had a blouse in these colors! The Golden Girls house alone was decked out in colors like this!
I've noticed in 2015 I've been breaking out my pink polish. I think this started late last year when I realized how much I've neglected pink, and how nail polish companies have been neglecting the color too. I know it's hard to make pink unique and fun. It's a classic color that I think can seem pretty mundane in comparison to what is out there in nail polish today. I have missed it though, and forgot how much I enjoy wearing it. This is a pink mani I did recently that I really liked!
Polishes Used: Sinful Colors Folly and Hard Candy Cherry Pop
As many of you know from my social media, I was asked to go the Global Pet Expo last week to help represent and assist the Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, the shelter I volunteer at. I was helping at the Petmate booth where we had a few of our shelter cats up for adoption demonstrating Jackson Galaxy's Petmate cat products. Jackson Galaxy is a cat behaviorist from Animal Planet's tv show "My Cat From Hell". Jackson Galaxy was also at our booth signing books, doing interviews, and meeting people. I got to meet Jackson too!
In honor of such a special event I had to do some fun cat themed nails!
Products Used: Jesse's Girl Spring Break, Maybelline Day Glow Teal, Maybelline Coral Heat, Cover Girl City Lights, and NPW Crazy Cat Nail Stickers.
This was my first time using nail stickers, so I'm quite pleased I didn't mess it up! I really loved these fun meow-er-riffic nails!
You know when you have a certain mani in mind, and then last minute you change it to something entirely different? That's how I was with this mani. In fact, I think that's how most of my planned manis go. I never end up doing what I thought I would. I was intending on doing a red creme and gold accent mani, but ended up going with blue shimmer and sparkle instead!
Polished Used: Zoya Remy and Essie On a Silver Platter
No complaints here! This is a beautiful combination I really love. I'm glad I changed my mind. Sometimes it's fun to be spontaneous and switch things up last minute. I think nail polish is the only thing I can be spontaneous and unplanned about! I'm such a planner on everything else.
I've been all over the place with nail polish lately. I tend to gravitate toward seasonal colors, but this past month I've gone from neons, vamps, shimmers, to brights. I've dabbled in the entire color spectrum of nail polish.
Here is a fun mani bold and bright mani I did recently.
Polishes Used: KBShimmer Low and Be Bold and Maybelline Wild at Heart
I think I need to do more red and blue manis. I really love the color combination!
Before I jump into holiday mode, I need to do some fall manis! This is one did recently, and wore for Halloween. I think it worked for Halloween, but it is definitely suitable for fall too.
Polishes Used: OPI Vant To Bite My Neck? and Sindie Pop Jinkies
I didn't mean to go 2 days without posting! I really hate doing that. I just got preoccupied early this week. I did a mani I really liked this past weekend. I've been trying to revisit a lot of oldies in my stash lately since I reorganized. I doubled the opulence with this one!
Polishes Used: Sally Hansen Opulent Cloud and Hare Polish Own Your Opulence.
I love this combination, and I completely forgot about Opulent Cloud! This is such a unique golden gray shimmer!
One color family and I guess finish family(?) I gravitate towards in fall are steely metallic grays. I love colors like this because they really can match with anything you wear. I realize that I do try to at least coordinate my nails to my clothing. I don't match them nor am I too particular, but I like to make sure the colors go together or at least compliment each other. That's why neutral colors are great they go with everything!
What are even better are neutral colors with some pizzazz, and that's what I had with this mani. I'm calling this mani "Autumn Sea" because the colors remind me of the ocean, but fall in line with more fall and winter tones.
Polishes Used: Pacifica Abalone and OPI My Voice is a Little Norse
The more I look at this mani the more I fall in love with it. I typically don't do repeat manis, but I think I'll be wearing this one again soon!
I decided to break out 2 really spectacular purple polishes for my fun mani this week. One of these two polishes hasn't seen the light of day in a very long time. The polish is so rare I hardly use it. What's worse is I have 2 bottles of it, so I'm going to start using it more. What's the polish? Cult Nails Unicorn Puke. Unicorn Puke definitely doesn't need to left in a Helmer to collect dust.
Polishes Used: CbL Connie You Saucy Minx and Cult Nails Unicorn Puke
I love mixing fall colors with warm metallic shades for fall manis. This has definitely been a trend for me the past few weeks. A vampy or muted color accented with gold or bronze is where I'm at right now. This is what I did recently with China Glaze's Choo Choo Choose You. I even brought back a shatter polish. Is it me or does anyone kind of miss these?
Polishes Used: China Glaze Choo Choo Choose You, OPI Gold Shatter, and L'Oreal Gorgeous Gold
I haven't quite reached vampy fall nail polish stage yet, but I'm breaking out a lot of dusty and muted colors. Here is a recent mani I did featuring Silly Bee's Chickadees and a-england.
Polishes Used: Silly Bee's Chickadees Sass & Sassability and a-england Her Rose Adagio.
I have to say I think I favor soft pastel holos over bright ones! I love they subtle sparkle!
I'm gearing up for fall. I'm still sporting summer manis, but fall is creeping it's way into my manicure repertoire. Here is my current mani were I ease into fall with some jewel tones.
Polishes Used: Revlon Indigo Night and OPI Sparkle-icious
I decided to go monochromatic with my mani this week. The past few weeks I've been spicing it up with complimentary colors and sometimes out there color combinations. How about some blue on blue?
I really like this look I created, it's very simple and sweet. Sometimes those are the best!
Polishes Used: Sally Hansen Wet Suit and Nails Inc. Hammersmith
I've found my mani-style of the summer. I've been doing a bunch of creme skittle manis. I guess it's more like two creme accents? I don't know the proper terminology, but basically I've been wearing 3 different colors of cremes on my nails. I've been sticking to bright or pastel shades, and it's been perfect for summer. I love it allows me to get creative with color combinations, and I get to play with more polish!
Here is a recent one I did.
Polishes Used: Julie G Tahiti, Miami Beach, and Maybelline Dayglow Teal.
Such fun colors, and there are countless options when doing manis like this. If your someone who wants to play up their nails, but isn't a fan of doing nail art, I highly recommend trying this type of mani out!
I've said this probably hundred times on this blog, but my all time favorite color combinations have to be cool colors with gold/bronze/copper. I think a common favorite combo among many of us aqua/mint paired with gold. It is such a beautiful combination of light and airy with rich and opulent. Win.
Here is a recent mani I did featuring this combination
Polishes Used: Cult Nails Manipulative and Zoya Tomoko
Do you have a favorite glitter/effect topper? This was a question I saw asked around in some nail related FB groups recently. I do have a favorite effect topper, and it's Essie Shine of the Times, a beautiful iridescent flakie. This polish has never seen the walls of my Helmer. Well, I have a back up bottle that rests there, but my original bottle is always out on my desk where I paint my nails.
Shine of the Times is my go-to layering polish when I want to add something special to a mani. The flakie looks different dependent on what type of color you layer it over. It's magical, and it looks great on everything.
Here is an awesome combination a did recently with Shine of the Times.
Polishes Used: Sinful Colors Blue Crushin and Essie Shine of the Times
