Throwbacks Week: China Glaze Sexagon

It's time for another week of throwbacks. I have a fairly coveted throwback to share with you today from China Glaze's Kaleidoscope collection. This is probably one of my oldest nail polishes in my collection and it's definitely one of those polishes I wouldn't ever part with under any circumstance. I'm not sure it holds the value as it did a few years ago, but it's still a treasured polish in my collection.

Sexagon
Sexagon is a silver scattered holo.

Collection: China Glaze Kaleidoscope 2009

Color: This is a pretty straight forward silver scattered holo. I love the glittery look of scattered holos. The holo effect here is moderate. If were to ask me about the holo effect a few years ago I'd tell you it is strong. Today, we have much stronger holos.

Formula: I think age has a done a bit of a number on this polish. It has thinned out tremendously and the pigment has separated from the base quite a bit. I had to continuously shake this one up to keep it together. I used 3 coats here.

Price: I see one bottle of this on eBay for $24. If I didn't have this I couldn't see myself paying $24 for it considering mainstream brands have lost their value in comparison to indies. That being said, if you like vintage polish it maybe worth it to you.

Overall: Sexagon is nice little gem in my collection. I can't say it's my favorite holo in the least, but 4 years ago before indies, I would of definitely said it was one of my favorites. It's a nice little polish. Time hasn't been kind to the formula, but it will remain safe in my Helmer.

Weekly Wax Wrap Up: 5/8/16-5/15/16

This was a fairly good wax week. I only had one odd ball wax this week, otherwise it was fairly good. The only issue I really seemed to have this week with the waxes I melt was throw. I wanted some stronger wax!
Colonial Candle Sea Spray
Scent Description: Splash around in a crisp marine blend of sea grass, salty sea foam, and amber sand.Top: Sea Grass, Seaweed, Herbal - Middle: Marine, Ozone - Bottom: Driftwood, Sea Salt, Amber
My Thoughts: This is probably the most authentic and natural salt water scent I've come across. I get a very well balanced ozone, sea salt water, and seaweed blend from this wax. It's ocean perfection. It's a very refreshing scent with decent throw too.
Scent Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Colonial Candle

Wilma's Lavender Eucalyptus
Scent Description: A relaxing blend of wild lavender and fresh eucalyptus.
My Thoughts: I loved this scent on cold. It really is a nice balance of lavender and eucalyptus. This got weird when melted though. I did get that soothing lavender and green floral eucalyptus, but something else was coming out in it. I swear I got this weird note of chicken and waffles. I know that sounds bizarre, but that's what I was smelling. It was like lavender, eucalyptus, fried chicken ,and maple syrup.  Needless to say, my nose to offense to this bizarre mystery note. Blech. I don't get any of that weird note on cold though -shrug-.
Scent Throw: 4/5
Where To Buy: Wilma's Shop

Ten Digit Creations Rainbow Sherbet
Scent Description: creamy vanilla with notes of pineapple, honeydew melon, and raspberries
My Thoughts: This reminds me of that fruit punch stuff you'd have at parties as a kid. It was a mix of Sprite, Hawaiian Punch, and rainbow sherbet in a punch bowl. This smells like that. It's amazing! I get the tartness from the raspberry and the bite from the pineapple, a hint of creaminess to it, plus this fizzy note. I LOVE fizzy and effervescent scent, so this was my jam. I just wish it had a stronger throw.
Scent Throw: 3/5
Where To Buy: Ten Digit Creations

Colonial Candle Cucumber Fresca
Scent Description: Relax with this garden-inspired medley of cool, crisp cucumber and fresh cilantro leaves. Top : Fresh Wasabi, Basil Leaf, White Grapefruit - Middle : Cucumber Peel, Trailing Ivy, Cilantro - Bottom : Cactus Blossom, Oak Moss, Violet Leaf
My Thoughts: Speaking of fizzy, this is another fizzy scent. This scent is so crisp and refreshing. I definitely detect the cucumber, grapefruit, and cilantro in this wax. I'm not familiar with cocktail types, but this smells like some type of cocktail made with seltzer water or something you'd want to drink on a very hot day. Like the previous one though, I wish it had a stronger throw.
Scent Throw: 2.5/5

Sinful Colors Kylie Collection Slay Grey

Oy vey. I didn't realize how involved this Kylie Jenner Sinful Colors collection went. There many sub collections of mattes and other stuff, that honestly I couldn't tell you everything. I don't even know. I *think* Slay Grey is part of the Precious Metals & Crown Jewels part of the collection that is then part of the Sinful Shine Gel Tech line. Are you confused yet? So am I.

I can't say I'm a fan of Kylie Jenner or anything Kardashian/Jenner for that matter. I give kudos to this family for knowing how to rake in the dough, I bought into it buying this color. That's about where the compliments end though. Materialistic stuff, fashion, luxury just isn't my thing. I have 4 pairs of shoes, 2 handbags I rotate between, and I live in jeans and t-shirts. I'm a very simple person. Any other simple jeans and t-shirt people out there?

Back to nail polish!

Slay Grey
Slay Grey is a soft grey with golden/green glass fleck shimmer.

Collection: Sinful Colors Sinful Shine Gel Tech Kylie King Precious Metals & Crown Jewels Collection 2016. Haha, try saying that a few times in a row.

Color: I adore Slay Grey, despite the cringey name. This is a soft neutral flattering shade with a gorgeous glass fleck shimmer. I adore this and I will give Kylie or whoever made this for Kylie credit for using a glass fleck shimmer with this. I miss glass fleck shimmers!

Formula: Excellent formula. I found this formula very smooth and so easy to apply. I used 2 coats.

Price: I believe I paid $2.99 for this at Big Lots, but I've also seen it at Walgreens.

Overall: Kylie and her Kardashian/Jenner clan can have all the money and glam, but I'm happy with this pretty nail polish. The color is stunning and I'm all about that glass fleck shimmer. The formula is on point and the price is great. Kylie just might make it as a contender in my Top 25 of 2016 polish list.

Fresh Paint Anchors Away

I know I've claimed that I'm almost done with mainstream polish because it's so stinky lately, I really don't want to let go. In recent months, I've really been trying to find mainstream or in-store polish that I can get excited about. The truth is, it's nearly impossible to find anything original these days, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything good. I went to Five Below recently and this color caught my eye. No, it's not original, but it's solid all around good color.

Anchors Away
Anchors Away is a true navy creme.

Collection: Unknown

Color: Navy isn't underrepresented in my nail polish collection, but there are many takes on navy. There are so dark it looks black navy and dusty/muted navy. Anchors Away is a true navy. It's a saturated clearly blue shade. There is no mistaking that this blue.

Formula: Solid good formula. I used 2 coats. It was easy to apply and I didn't have any challenges with it.

Price: I got this as part of 3 for $5 deal they have at Five Below. 3 nail polishes for $5 is a steal.

Overall: Anchors Away is a beautiful solid blue creme. I know you hear me saying "solid" a lot, but what I mean by that is it's basically a staple color that you can't go wrong with. The formula is great and the price is awesome. Fresh Paint polishes have impressed me since I tried the brand, and I'm still impressed.

Different Dimension Moonbeam

I really appreciate when indies don't run out of colors or keep past collections in stock. It's rare for me to buy colors or collection as soon as it is released. I like to leisurely shop or take time to determine if I really want something. Different Dimension's The Dream Team collection caught my eye this past holiday season especially the rose gold Moonbeam shade. I didn't get around to buying it then, but when Missi from Different Dimension shared a swatch of it in recent weeks, I was reminded that I needed to have it.

Moonbeam
Moonbeam is a rose gold polish with added holo microglitters, sterling silver plated flakies and shimmers.

Collection: Different Dimension The Dream Team Winter/Holiday 2015

Color: Who doesn't love rose gold? I do even though rose gold colors tend to blend into my pinky skin tone. I think they're gorgeous. This color is so multi-dimensional with the explosion of flakies, shimmer, and glitter. This is a very opaque glitter bling city on the nails. It is absolutely stunning. I think also if you have lighter toned skin this will read as a nude/neutral on you despite it being so glittery.

Formula: Superb formula. I used 2 coats, and honestly I think some people could get away with 1 coat. It's a very condensed formula, but not difficult to apply in the least. I do use 2 coats of top coat on this, not because it dries gritty or textured. I just found that a second coat of top coat took from shiny to glossy.

Price: This is $12 on Different Dimension's site. This is a bit of a pricier polish for me, but well worth it considering the color and the excellent formula.

Overall: I wish I had bought this when it was released in 2015 because it definitely would of been on my Top 25 of 2015 list. Moonbeam is a stunning rose gold color with a beautiful multi-dimensional finish. This is an all star polish and a must have in my opinion.
