Essie Sparkle on Top

"Well, it was pretty in the bottle."

We've all been there, sorely disappointed by a beautiful nail polish in the bottle, that looks entirely lackluster on the nail. This is a sad situation, and a common one. This the story of Essie Sparkle on Top.

Sparkle On Top looked like some China Glaze Snow Gobe-esque  icy iridescent rainbow fantasy in the bottle, but it's all just a bottle of sorry and sad lies.

Sparkle on Top over Essie No More Film
Sparkle on Top is a mix of blue-green iridescent flakes in a clear base.

Color: Lies. Lies. Lies. This isn't some strong iridescent pretty multi-dimensional flakie situation. No, this is a sorry and sad flakie situation. These flakies/flakes have a faint blue-green shift, but mainly just look completely transparent on the nail. This looks so much better in the bottle.

Formula: The formula is fine. The flakes spread evenly and easily on the nail.

Price: I paid $8.50 for this CVS.

Overall: This is not worth your money. There are much better iridescent glitters and flakies out there that you will be happier with. I recommend China Glaze Snow Globe, China Glaze Make A Spectacle, China Glaze Luxe and Lush, or Essie Shine of the Times. Sparkle on Top is a Whompasaurus Rex.

SPCA Sunday: I'm A SPCA Volunteer

I wanted to start out a new Sunday post, sharing something in my life that has become very important to me. I have been a volunteer at the SPCA of Central Florida since last March. I volunteer there every Wednesday and every other Friday.

The SPCA of Central Florida has really become a second home for me. I'm pretty introverted and have always struggled throughout my life to find my "niche" or place I fit in. I can say at the age of 26 (at the time), I found it at the SPCA. The staff and volunteers there are so welcoming, friendly, and nonjudgmental. I've made some true friends here with big hearts and open minds.

Before I get into my volunteer duties, I want to share a bit about the SPCA of Central Florida. The SPCA of Central Florida takes in owner relinquished pets and puts them up for adoption. The SPCA of Central Florida does not euthanize for space or time. As long as pet has a non-aggressive temperament and does not have an terminal illnesses, they will be up for adoption. We've had pets as old as 13-15yrs old put up for adoption, and find homes! We've had pets who have been in the shelter over a year, stay in the shelter until they find their home! I am a direct witness to this. You can find out more about the SPCA of CFL policies, missions, and practices here.

I have 2 volunteer duties at the SPCA:

One, I'm a "Kitty Cuddler"
There is some Kitty Cuddling action for you! As a Kitty Kuddler, my main jobs are to help get cats adopted and to socialize the shelter cats. If a potential adopter comes in, I help answer questions and direct them to a pet that fits their needs. I familiarize them with the adoption price and all that includes (shots/spay/neuter). I also, spend time petting and playing with kitties, so they get as much attention and love as they can in the shelter environment.

Two, I'm a "Kennel Coach"
As a Kennel Coach my job is to help enrich the lives of shelter cats. We have various enrichment activities Kennel Coaches do for the cats each day. Some days we get crafty by making the cats pipe cleaner toys, teaser toys,  and kitty mobiles. We also have "cat nip day" where we use cat nip sprays, cat nip bubbles, and dry cat nip to help entice and entertain the kitties. Then there are tuna tacos and tuna balls which are special treats we give the kitties. All of these things help keep kitties entertained, active, and happy while they're at the shelter.

This is just an introduction to my SPCA Sunday posts. I plan on every Sunday, featuring a shelter cat, with their picture and information. I'd also like to share some of my experiences that week while volunteering. The intent of these posts is to be warm, fuzzy, and fun. These posts will not be depressing or sad, I promise you that. I just want to share a meaningful part of my life, that makes me smile. I hope also that it will bring attention to the importance of animal shelters and pet adoption.

Thanks for reading!
Happy Sunday!

Glitt-A-Licia Guest Post: 2013 A Year In Polish

Hello dear reader,

I am sorry I have been quiet lately. I currently write my little guest post biweekly, but the past 3 weeks I have been dealing with the flu, which lead to pneumonia. Since my lungs have taken such a beating, I am probably going to be dealing with asthma for the rest of my life. Woo-hoo ;(
Check It Yo!! Lookin all gangsta with my inhaler! (And unlike a certain past President of The United States, I fully admit that I inhale. Man it feels gooood....ya know what I mean...to actually breathe oxygen.)

Any-hoo!!! I love "year end wrap ups" and if you have kept up with me, you know 2013 has been one wild ride! Buckle Up! We are boarding the crazy train, and I HIGHLY suggest you to buckle up if I am driving, just sayin.

So come aboard the roller coaster "My Year 2013", a ride so crazy, I think Ozzy would want off!!!
First of all, let me explain that in January of 2013, I had not painted my nails in years. December 2013, I prob have a house note in polish in a plastic bin under my bed, and I even started making my very own indie polish.

So hear goes my year in a quick wrap up.

First Indie Polish...

...I love glitter and started looking online for the best glitter. I am very over-the-top and I basically wanted my nails to be tiny disco balls. This is when I discovered SpectraFlair Top Coats. Piper Polish and is owned by the lovely Erin Piper and her SF top coat was my first indie purchase!!  Check her shop out at the link below

First Time I Realized There Were Actual Blogs About Nail Polish...

...Once I broke away from the trance that SpectraFlair puts me in, I started checking the net looking for more glorious glitter! Then, one name caught my attention faster than a cheesecake!! I found this little blog post and need I say more...

This was my expression when I saw Unicorn Puke for the first time.
This was my expression when I saw Unicorn Puke was discontinued
This was my expression when I decided to look for it on eBay
Sadly, I will never own the mythical Unicorn Puke...but, it did lead me to a great indie maker, Maria at Cult Nails, and an awesome blogger named Steph at Imperfectly Painted :D

Cult Nails can be found at Cultnails.com, Llarowe.com, and Overallbeauty.com

If you need help finding Steph at Imperfectly Painted....you just can't be helped. You are too far gone to be helped. ;( sorry

First Lemming...

...I was loving all the indie polishes, but when I saw my first lemming...let's just say I turned into Gollum from The Lord of The Rings. I NEEDED THIS POLISH! IT MUST BE IN MY LIFE! I found my lemming, a spunky blogger, and an indie maker who is really a rainbow in human form. I absolutely love these girls, and I am so happy the universe decided to let us meet through the magic of the internet. We became the geek glamour trifecta!

I came across this post by Mish at Acciolacquer.com

If I were to be magically transformed into a polish, I would be Serenity. I became obsessed with this polish. I really did! You can ask Raph! I actually want you to go to Digital Nails Facebook page and ask her about it! Go! Right Now!!

I'll wait right here...

Sadly, Serenity has been discontinued,
And don't think for one second that I'm gonna share mine ;) lol!!!
Well, I do have more stories to tell, but I am old and sleepy. I must get off the crazy train to stretch my legs. If you would like to continue on this journey, just let me know!! I will continue my round up in my next post. If you don't really want to hear more of my 2013, just tell me to fast forward to 2014 (wow 2014 looks so futuristic).

Shine On Reader,
Licia

Zoya Hazel

Welcome to my first review of 2014! Zoya recently announced their latest promo they begins Jan 7th, so why not start of with a Zoya you might want to add to your basket?

I know when it comes to January, I'm already eagerly awaiting spring collections, but I'm not quite ready to throw in the winter towel yet. I love dark shades for fall and winter, but come January I like to throw in some "icy" shades into the mix. Soft blues, purples, and some cool-toned metallics fit the bill. Zoya Hazel has just become my latest pedicure color and it's cold as ice!

Hazel
Hazel is a pale blue foil with golden foil flecks.

Color: Like I said, cold as icy! I love the foil finish of this pale blue. The golden flecks give this color a little more depth and keep it form being flat.

Formula: Excellent formula. This covered nicely in 2 coats without and streaking or sheerness

Price: $9.00 on the Zoya website. BUT, with the promo next Tuesday you can buy this one, plus 2 others for just $12! Read about the promo here.

Overall: I love this color. This is exactly what I crave in Janaury. The color is crisp, shiny, and has an excellent formula. No complaints!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 Paint Splatters
Happy Friday!
