Throwback Thursday: Milani 3D Digital

Back in nail polish history there was time when finding holographic nail polishes was nearly impossible. There was a dry spell of holographic polishes I'd say around 2009-2012 before indies came to the rise. It was nearly impossible to find holographic nail polishes unless you went on eBay and were willing to shell out $$$$.

Milani did come to the rescue in early 2010 with there own little holographic collection. No, they weren't the same as some of the older holos nor are they as holo-riffic as what we have now, but they did their job. I still like them because I do find they're just a bit unique from many holos today. I have one of those colors to show you now.

Digital
Digital is a soft pink scattered holo.

Collection: Milani 3D Holographic Collection Early 2010

Color: This collection ahd subtle colors, but I like this one. Pink is kind of neglected color these days especially in holo. The holographic effect in this one is very scattered and the particles are large. I don't see that in holos currently which is why I really like this one. The holo effect isn't strong, but it does have a unique and sparkly finish.

Formula: This formula is very sheer. This was pretty typical of older holos. This took me around 4 coats to build up.

Price: This isn't readily available anymore, but you can still find some online through etailers if you search.

Overall: I like this old Milani polish. I know many people won't be wowed by it since there are so many amazing indie holos out now, but I think it's pretty special. I love the scattered glittery holo effect and the larger sparkly particles. The formula could be a bit better, but it's a cool polish and one I plan on holding on to.

Black Cat Lacquer Demeter

I have a pretty polish from Black Cat Lacquer to share with you today. I recently was gifted some Black Cat Lacquer's in a gift exchange that were on my wishlist. I've been trying to step up my indie game this year. I'm pretty slow at it, I admit, but I'm enjoying all that I've picked up. This color is no exception.

Demeter
Demeter is a pastel teal crelly base with teal holographic glitters.

Collection: Black Cat Lacquer Goddess Collection Spring 2014

Color: This is beautiful softened and muted teal shade. I love this color! I also love that it's a crelly glitter. Crelly glitters and jelly glitters are my favorite. I like how the glitter coincides with this base. This a beautiful glitter polish, but it's more subtle than multi-colored glitters.

Formula: Excellent and easy to use formula. I used 2 coats above.

Price: This is $9 on the Black Cat Lacquer website.

Overall: Demeter is a beautiful glitter crelly polish. I love the color. The formula is great. I love that it's a simpler glitter, but still has the bling factor. I really gravitate toward colors like this because they give me the glitz, but don't go overboard.

L'Oreal Raise the Flag

Where has all the drugstore nail polish gone? You can tell nail polish has peaked with the general public. I used to see new or LE drugstore polish collections popping up every few months 2 years ago. Now, I rarely see anything new nail polish wise from the drugstore. This really bums me out.

L'Oreal did happen to lift my spirits a bit when I saw a new collection from them called Nautique featuring nautical and American themed colors. One of the colors I picked up was perfect for my July 4th mani!

Raise the Flag over L'Oreal High Tide
Raise the Flag is a mixture of satin red, white, and blue mini bar glitters in a clear base.

Collection: L'Oreal Nautique Collection Summer 2015

Color: Not much to say about color here. This is a great glitter mix of colors for any patriotic themed mani. I will say, I'm not typically a fan of bar glitter at all, but I actually really like these. They're so fine and small that it does create a cool effect on the nails!

Formula: The formula on this was really good and easy to apply. I didn't have any trouble getting this glitters to apply and spread out on the nail.

Price: I paid around $5-$6 for this at Walgreens.

Overall: I really love the look of Raise the Flag. I think it's a fun and fresh take on a patriotic glitter. What I like about it most is the effect it creates on the nails. If you're painfully nail art challenged or just lazy like me, this glitter really looks like you did some fun nail art technique on your nails without the effort!

Throwback Thursday: Zoya Angelina

I have a different color for me throwback to show you today. I am not really brown person at all. Brown nail polish or brown clothing wouldn't be my first color of choice. A few years back though I was craving a brown nail polish. I don't know why, but I felt like I needed one in my collection. My first pick was Zoya's Angelina, and it's color I'm still happy with over the years.

Angelina
Angelina is a rich coffee brown creme.

Collection: Zoya Drama Collection Winter 2006

Color: What I like about this brown is the richness and depth of the color. This is a brown that nearly verges on black. While brown isn't my go-to color ever, I think this shade of brown is very universal and flattering. It's very shiny and elegant.

Formula: Angelina has a nice formula. I used 3 coats above. I'd prefer it didn't need the extra coat and was just a little more opaque on application.

Price: This color has since been discontinued by Zoya, however, it is available on Amazon for $9.

Overall: What draws me to this color is it reads as a very classic neutral color without being ordinary. Angelina being a brown shade makes this color special and unique in comparison to a classic black or red. I love the depth of this color, and it will always remain in my collection.
